Thank you mrunal
I had my interview today in the afternoon shift. Mine was manbir singh sir’s board. There are five boards in all. Other members are david sir, alka mam, rajni rajdan mam and reddy sir.
We have reported at 1 pm and after submitting our mobile phones we were directed to a common waiting room. There u will be told about the table no. where u have to sit with other 6 candidates. All 7 will have the same board. Document verification process starts immediately. Don’t forget to take 4 photocopies of the attestation form and 2 photographs. Take all the original certificates along with a set of Photostats.
I was the third candidate to be interviewed. The attendant directed me to the room and opened the door for me. I asked for the permission to enter.
MS: you have done engineering. Why you want to join the paramilitary?
Me: sir, I have passion for uniform job. I have tried for the IPS but failed twice. Then I have tried for the technical entry in army but was conference out. So now I want to join the central armed forces.
MS: what would be ur priority after getting into the services?
Me: sir, i would try to maintain law and order. And work towards the betterment of the life and security of people.
MS: what is the difference between district police and paramilitary forces?
Me: sir, district police is the immediate force to manage law and order while paramilitary is the second line of defence.
MS: are you familiar with judicial activism?
Me: yes sir.
MS: are you in favour of it? Why or why not?
Me: sir, I think it is good in some sphere such as resulting in the formulation of RTI act and directing the centre to distribute the grains that are rotting in the storage houses. But I am not in agreement with the latest decision of Supreme Court to modify representation of people act so that the legislators convicted of crime should be disqualified without giving them any right of appeal.
MS: almost one fourth or even more of our politicians are corrupt. Don’t you will feel this will clean the parliament somewhat?
Me: sir, if you want to disqualify them then election commission should not allow them to file the nominations in the first place. But once they have won the popular mandate, they have the right to be in the parliament. Besides, if you want convict them then Supreme Court should convict them and they should be arrested but by curbing their right to appeal SC is infringing upon their rights.
MS: but it may take years before the final verdict is out. by that time they will ruin the country.
Me: sir, in that case reformation of the judiciary is required. u cannot deny someone his right just because of our laggard judiciary. Induct more judges and reform the archaic penal laws and it will expedite the process.
MS: okay. (Directs to first member)
M1: have u heard of the UN resolution on Kashmir?
Me: sir it says about the violation of human rights of the Kashmiris. (pure tukka)
M1: no, I was talking about UN resolution of 1945. What about it?
Me: sorry sir I don’t know.
M1: do you think Kashmir issue can be resolved if we give it to Pakistan? Will that stop all the infiltrations in our country?
Me: no sir that will only encourage Pakistan to advance further. In fact they may even demand Jammu.
M1: do you think Kashmir is the fundamental dispute between the two nations today?
Me: sir, I think both sides have mature governments today. Especially after the election of Nawaz Sharif as PM. Both sides are willing to compromise. We should focus more on trade relations and how to tackle the growing clout of china in Asia. Kashmir is no longer the sole concern of both nations.
(Now member 2)
M2: you said that the representation of people act should not be changed. Who according to u should be the supreme authority to decide in this matter? (yaar bachche ki jaan logo kya ek hi question pe!!!)
Me: sir, according to me election commission should be the sole authority to decide on the matter. it is constitutional body constituted for this very purpose i.e. to make sure of fair and transparent elections.
M2: so only election commission should decide which member is criminal or not?
Me: no sir. It is the judiciary which will deal with the criminal charges. But election commission should decide whether such individuals should be allowed to contest the election or not.
M2: and at which stage should this be done?
Me: sir at the time of filing the nominations itself.
M2: okay. (Now the third member enters into the scene)
M3: u passed out in 2010. What were u doing till now?
Me: sir, I was preparing for civil services.
M3: you have done engineering from a very prestigious college NSIT. Don’t you think by coming here you have spoiled some genuine engineering interested candidate’s seat in your college? I mean you could have come here from anywhere. Why NSIT then?
(He has hit an absolute bull’s-eye. Honestly, I didn’t have the answer for that.)
Me: sir, I wanted to use my technical knowledge in defence services but failed in the SSB process during the technical entry in army. Besides, I have a passion for IPS so I decided to come here. ( repeating what I had said earlier)
M3: you have done ur schooling from Ghaziabad. Tell me about the law and order situation there.
Me: sir, there is an urgent need for police reforms as police is totally insensitive to citizens’ needs. Besides, with the change of government the police change its nature. So, politicization of police i.e the influence of SP or BSP should be stopped.
M3: u r born in chamoli, uttarakhand. What about there?
Me: sir, it is a lot more peaceful state and I have barely read or heard of any manhandling case related to the police. And politics has yet not influenced the police as it has done in UP.
(now the fourth member, a lady)
M4: I will ask u few technical questions. What are renewable resources?
Me: mam, resources which don’t get exhausted and are lifelong and are generally clean sources of energy.
M4: give examples.
Me: solar energy, wind energy, hydro energy etc.
M4: which resource is most suitable for india?
Me: mam, India is a tropical country with 12 months sunshine. So I think solar energy is best.
M4: what about wind energy?
Me: mam, there is potential for wind energy in Gujarat but we cannot have regular winds so it may not be such a viable option.
M4: no, there are certain areas where there is constant wind. Anyway, what are the problems with wind energy generation?
Me: mam, I don’t know.
M4: think from environmentalist point of view.
Me: sorry mam.
M4: the environmentalists are saying such mills are affecting the environment and spoiling the scenic beauty.
Me: but mam such problems are with hydro power plants as well, like the Narmada Bachao Andolan. Even such dams are spoiling the environment.
M4: ya, but wind mills are more damaging.
Me: okay,mam.
MS: okay you may go now.
The interview went for like 10-12minutes. It was a really nice experience. The board was very cordial and made me fell comfortable. There were no teasing or uncomfortable questions.
Best of luck!!!!
thanks for your input
thank u sir!!!
Best of luck S.K for result.. Please tell me is it compulsory to speak in english or you can use mix of languages?? Do they ask you before which language you would prefer??.. How should be flow of interview?? Please throw some light on this language problem??
Thanks.
Thanx S.K. and best of luck.. Please throw some light on language to be used in interview i.e. english hindi or regional language??? Did they ask from candidate for preference of language? which language to speak in??
yaar i have given my interview in english. but i don’t think language is a barrier. occasional use of hindi should be fine. but as i can see u r good with english(judging by ur comment) i think u should stick with it.
best of luck!!!
Thanks S.K.
S K… All the best for your result! :)
I am giving the exam this year and hope to go to the interview next year.. Any advice from your side for the written exam?
yaar go through previous years’ papers. then study from basic books on history, polity etc. already discussed by mrunal sir on this forum. for the written paper practice as much as u can. the pattern of the paper is fixed so u can easily formulate a strategy(i.e. which question to attempt first and all)
upsc is not asking facts anymore so don’t waste ur time on those roadside cheap factual books on names and events.
please go through this forum for all the answers and material for study.
best of luck!!!
Thanks thanks thanks…
To Mrunal,,, and to you for your reply
thx SK for sharing ur experience…..all d best for final results…
Hi
Can anyone who has faced interview yesterday or infact today tell what is sequence of candidates called for interview. I mean inside there is it based on ur Roll no. or as per your rollno. in the list given by UPSC.
I have my interview on 26th July afternoon session.
they have their own list. so upsc interview schedule does not matter. u will be told ur no. there and u will be called for interview in that order.
best of luck!!!
Thank You Brother my interview is on 19th and i feel Screwed,by reading your interview I feel much more comfortable.
your welcome. just be relaxed. they are not pulling your leg. if don’t know the answer just tell them politely that you don’t know.
best of luck!!!
what documents are needed at the time of interview as i didn’t got my call letter yet.Plz help who faced the interview.
yaar u can get ur call letter from upsc as they have mentioned in the interview schedule. u will not be allowed to enter upsc without ur call letter. it is the first thing they check at the gate alongwith a photo id prove. besides, call letter is also required for further formalities.
u will be required to show original 10th certificate for date of birth verification, graduation degree and caste certificate if applicable alnonwith one set of photocopies of these as well. and don’t forget to take 4 set of photocopies of attestation form and 2 photographs.
(attestation form comes attached with the call letter. since u have not received it i strongly recommend u to go upsc as early as possible. it’s a very serious matter bro. don’t take it lightly. upsc is very strict in this matter.)
dear S K,first of all thanks for sharing ur experience and all the best to you!
i had attested the form w/o taking any photocopies;as upsc has demanded the sign(gztd off) in ink only so i just took the print out of the letter from the link provided by mr.bond and had attested 5 of those copies from the same officer.but the officer signed in short(only the first letter of his earlier sign).now i am in a dilemma whether to use these copies alongwith the original letter or should i use only the 5 copies altogether leaving the original one.please reply!
u can get one form attested by the gazetted officer and get it photostated.that’s what i have done and they have accepted it. if u have 5 copies of original attestation then there is no problem. with regard to the signature: well if it was his original signature then its fine. but his signature differs from what he usually does then u may want to get it corrected from him.
so the ‘signature in ink’ is not a mandate…thanks indeed dear!
@SK thanx bddy
thanks SK bro and good luck for final result
Should the photocopy of 10th certificate, degree certificate be attested or simple photocopy will be enough
simple photocopy is enough.
thanks sk
subject se kya pucha ja skta hai because i m week in my subject i have done bsc with PCM
and i dont have enough knowledge of my subject what to do and i have interview on 25th july
yaar it’s very difficult to say what they may or may not ask. the shape of the interview depends on ur answers. let’s hope it doesn’t drift towards ur academic background. but go through the fundamentals like definitions, basic examples and application of ur subject in real life especially in the central armed forces. they will only ask basic questions.so don’t worry.
best of luck!!!
Its a request to others facing interview to Please share your interview details like SK here has done.
Thanks in advance

I am giving the exam this year and hope to go to the interview next year.. Any advice from your side for the written exam?
Did anyone had his intrvw wid a.p singh board?
Plz share ur opinion abt dis board…
Hw is a.p singh board?!…..i mean is he lenient or strict in giving marks……..plz share ur veiws
hey hii…
my interview was on 22nd in the afternoon batch..
my board was of Mr.A.P.Singh…As he was former CBI Director so i had butterflies in my stomach..
Anyways my group consisted of 7 people who were to face Mr. Singh and i was the last in the list to be interviewed..
my number came approx 4.00 pm in the evening and all others had gone after giving theirs..
i am from engineering background and also worked for an year before calling quits and started preparing from Delhi..i am a fitness freak and have won in body building and power lifting competitions..also in my school time i represented my school at nationals in basketball and won bronze at nationals and gold at state level..i was the captain of my college’s sports team..just giving details so that you may not be confused by their questions..my college’s annual events’ name is Renaissance in which i won campus roadies event..
As i entered the room i was feeling nervous so i took a deep breath and with confidence wished them all good afternoon and they asked me to take the seat..
Mr. Singh-U comfortable in english or hindi?
me-english sir
Mr. Singh-after seeing my DAF..Mr.Vipul nice to see that you are a sportsman..
me-Thank u sir..
Mr. Singh-you played basketball upto state level..
me-sir i played nationals also and got bronze..
Mr. Singh-good…so after that?
me-sir after that i started doing power lifting and bodybuilding..
Mr. Singh-so u left basketball?
me-sir i had to because of some reasons(i didn’t told him the reason deliberately)
Mr. Singh-so you are doing job(i thought he didn’t read my daf correctly)
me-sir i was doing job in the past then i left
Mr. Singh-he saw other guys and smilingly asked-what if you don’t get a good job now?
me-Sir a little risk is always required to move forward in life besides if you do hard work then nothing is impossible
Then he passed the daf to next guy..
G1-so vipul you are Mechanical Engineer?
me- yes sir but now i’m not in touch with mechanical from last 3 years(so as to make him conscious not to ask questions from mechanical as now i don’t know even M of Mechanical)
G1-its ok..but you must be having your favourite subject in Mechanical as Mechanical is a vast branch and have many subjects..which one is yours??
i didn’t wanted it to go this way but as he was adamant to know so i had to reply
me-sir my favourite subject is Automobile engineering..
G1-oh good…So tell me vipul what is Auto in Automobile?
me-was startled by what he asked..took a moment and then said sir auto refers to automatic means anything which is done on its own without human endeavour..
G1-no no tell me is it a machine a person a technology a company what??
me- sir auto is automatic..
actually he was asking about Otto the scientist of otto cycle of petrol engine and i thought he’s asking Auto..my bad luck i knew about otto..
G1-have you heard about Carnot engine?
me-yes sir
G1-and do you know there was a guy named Otto who gave a cycle..
me-yes sir otto and diesel cycles
G1-automobile word was given on his name..with a smile
me-nodded with him..and said ok sir..felt googly
G1-tell me the four strokes of engine
me-sir suction,compression,exhaustion..
G1-exhaustion or?
me-sorry sir suction,compression,ignition,expansion and exhaustion..
G1-ok so what is the difference between a petrol engine and diesel engine?
i didn’t knew the numerical values of compression ratio or efficiency percentage etc.
me-sir a petrol engine has fuel air mixture injected through carburattor and in a diesel engine we have a fuel injector
G1-and what else difference you find in the 4 srokes of both??
i didn’t knew how to answer this as i didn’t wanted to use these technical terminologies like compression ratio and other things..so
me-after a while sorry sir i don’t remember..
G2-so vipul you won in renaissance…what is renaissance??
me-sir renaissance refers to revival or rebirth..it was a movement launched in early 13th century in Italy..
G2-what happened in it?
me-sir in it the people were earlier controlled by the thoughts of church…whom they have to marry ..how many kids they have to give birth, etc.
G2-did pope also had any role?

me-at once named by mistake karl marx who was born centuries later..
G2-it was Luther..
me-oh yes sir he gave Lutherism..
G2-good you know about this
me-thank u sir..
G2-do you know what is fission and what is fusion
me-yes sir, in fission a larger particle like uranium235 is bombarded with neutrons and electrons and it splits into smaller ones with dissipation of energy..wheres in fusion we have smaller particles fusing to form a larger one with the release of energy as in the case of Sun..also sir fission is controllable but fusion is very difficult to contol…
G2-so what is used in an atom bomb?
me-confusingly sir i think fission..
G2-sure?
me-yes sir as what i know
G2-so what is used in hydrogen bomb?
me-again with hesitation sir fusion
G2-yes fission happens in nuclear atom bomb and fusion in hydrogen bomb with smile..
me-yes sir nodding him..
G2-what is heavy water?
me-sir heavy water is d2o deuterium oxide and is used as a coolant as well as moderator in a nuclear reaction..sir it is an isotope of hydrogen
G3-Have you heard about FDI..?
me-yes sir
G3-what is it?
me-i gave him the proper definition of it along with examples..i gave the 4-5 days back example of increase in fdi in insurance sector upto 49 percent
G3-so why does it require Parliament approval?
me-sir anything done in a controlled fashion is always good..besides we can not let our market be governed by foreign players..
G3-so do you favour FDI?
me-gave some fundas to him and in the end concluded by nodding for fdi so as to stable our rupee volatility vis a vis dollar in the market also..
G3-do you think it can stop rupee devaluation?
me-sir in short term it won’t show effect but in long term it will definitely show..
G4-have you heard about commonwealth?
me-yes sir it is a union of all the countries which were ruled by British in its colonial regime
G4-who is the head of it?
me-after thinking a while..Sir i don’t know
G4-Britain’s Queen
me-oh yes sir..
There was a photo of Gandhi ji hanging on the wall behind..
G4-do you see a photo behind?
me-after seeing..yes sir
G4-who is he?
me-sir Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi…Father of our Nation
G4-what else do we call him?
me-sir Bapu
G4-don’t we call him Mahatma also?
me-yes sir
G4-who gave him the name Mahatma
this was the first question for which i gave wrong answer that too twice out of ignorance
me-as i was confused so i told sir as what i remember this name was given to him while he was in Tolstoy Farm in South Africa???
G4-an Indian Gave him this name
i don’t know how it just erased from my memory
me-sir either Jawahar lal Nehru or Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel..??
G4-laughingly it was Rabindra Nath Tagore..
me-disappointedly yes sir..
G4-what you think the characteristics of this man will help you as an AC?
me-gave him an Engineer’s Descriptive style answer
G4-has our Constitution taken care of his ideas?
me-yes sir in various DPSPs like Article-43 for cottage industry..also sir his views of panchayati raj, banning of cow slaughter etc..

Mr. Singh-Do you know Yuri Gagrin?
i was shocked to hear this..
me-yes sir he was the first Russian Cosmonaut
Mr. Singh-and didn’t he??
me-sir he was also the first person to go to space
Mr. Singh-yes..it doesn’t matter whether he was astronaut or cosmonaut..
Mr. Singh-thank you vipul
me-thank you sir..
this is how my interview went..dnt knw where time flew..
all i know was that the ambience was cordial and cheerful..
all the best to guys who will be giving the interviews…i hope my experience could be somewhat helpful to you..
It was really a good one, thoda mechanical portion damadol ho gaya baki sab fit tha…
Ye bahot hi common hai ki agar aap bolte ho ki main mechanical se hu to samne wala kam se kam petrol aur diesel engine ke bare me zarur poochhega… Jo bhi hai interview kaafi mast gaya…
Agar bura na mano to kya poochh sakta hu ki 3 mahine me cpf written nikala ja sakta hai mrunal ko follow karke ?
bro i was not at all interested in telling him that i am from mechanical..and i also didn’t told him that..
afterall 3 saal ho gaye engineering khatam kiye..mechanical hi padhni hoti toh core company k job nhi chodta..
woh kehte hain na k ap jiski taiyaari karte ho usme se kuch nhi pucha jaata..same happened with me..
anyways yaar to be honest maine cpf k 1% bhi taiyyari nhi ki thi becoz i was preparing for civil services..but i have read some of mrunal’s blogs and those were very good..agar civil k preparation kari hain den u dnt require to prepare specifically for it..
if not then also 3 months are more than enough to crack this…
previous year questions utha k pattern dkh lena and start preparing accordingly..all d best..
hey vipul can u tel me about wat is d date for jharkhand PCS prelims
Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), Ranchi is all set to conduct 5th Combined Civil Services (PT) Competitive Exam 2013 in the state for the recruitment to fill up 236 Posts…i hope you must have filled it..
in case you haven’t filled then last date for online registration is 2nd of August before 5 pm and last date to send printed receipt along with application form is 12th of August…
The date for examination is not yet declared so you have to wait or keep guessing…i think it won’t happen before september end..
anyways you will soon get to know about it..
good luck..:)
thanks for sharing this.
your welcome sir..:)
While you were/are preparing for civil service, why did you not choose mechanical as an optional ?
Which subject did you choose then and why ? (Your response might solve someones dilemma )
Hey vipul, thanks for sharing. All the best for you to get selected in the final list. You mentioned you were a fitness freak & won lot of medals. What did you mention as your hobbies in the DAF?
thanx bro..
i mentioned my hobby as avid fitness enthusiast especially working out in gym..
Bddy can u tell me about the boards, like how many boards and the names of the chairpersons
Thanx vipul!
yaar can anybody tell me about any coaching institute in Delhi which is taking mock interviews for CPF as I want to avail one and my interview is on 26th july
i hv nt receivd the interview letter as yet i.e as on 23rd n my interview is on 26th. Nobody picks up any call at upsc given nos n i hv been trying since last 4 days. Dis wasnt xpectd atleast frm upsc.
Cn anybody suggest me wot shud i do? Wil they entertain my presence if i go widot letter? Anybody’s suggestion is most welcum.
You should go there with all your original documents as you have no other way. Keep continuously calling them. They might pick up call.
Just take original certificates and a copy of them, download attestation form from UPSC site, take 5 copies and 2 extra passport size photographs, For entry u can take printout of ur admit card and carry a id proof.Don’t worry they are very lenient, they will just make u sign a undertaking and u can submit the required documents within 15 days.
thanx Rohan n MS for your inputs.
MS: cn u plz tel me that from which link at upsc site, the atestation form cn b downloaded.

Chairman
-What are doing after your finishing ur last degree since last yr?
Sir my result technically came in Feb this yr as I have filled re-evaluation in one exam and in mean time I was working under one Prof for my Phd. Proposal.
-What is Patent and Copy rights Act?
These are intellectual property laws which try to strike balance between the individual’s rights and society benefit. One inventor is provided with legal protection for disclosing his invention for a specified period so that society at large can benefited frm his invention…….
(I couldn’t finish the whole thing)
-What is actual position of implementation of patent and copyright laws at local police station level?
Sir I don’t have a practical experience of this kind. Though it may be situation due to lower level of knowledge of police personnel but at higher level we have a vibrant IPR laws which are updated recently in 2005 to make them in tune with WTO compliance.
M1
-Tell about Judicial Reforms
Judicial reforms need to looked at frm structural and behavioral point of view. In structural part we need to over haul the acts, statutes, rules etc and in behavioral part we need to reduce the adjounment culture..( he cut short me)
– why can’t we adopt frm other systems like plea bargaining, jury trial ?
Sir we can do that and in 2005 ammendment of CrPC we have introduce Plea Bargaining though for smaller offences but we can not out righly shift to foreign features like jury trial as we have low level of literacy and longer exposure to present syst. While talking abt Judicial Syst Sir we shd bear in mind that it caters to 120 million people and hence sheer no. is also large.
-Diff between Ordinance and Act
Text Book answer but when I quoted Art 123 he said its 213 1st i agreed but i corrected it later by saying, “Sir I beg to differ that both 123 and 213 deals with ordinance in terms of President and Governor’s power.”
M2
-Food Security Ordinance
Sir it is a new right based approach adopted by India to provide safety net for poorest of poor ensuring Food Security with coverage of 50% of urban popu and 67% of rural popu with targetted PDS system at subdised rates….
-Link between WTO rules and Food Security Ordinance
Sir I believe that there can be an argument frm Western Countries that it is a sort of agricultural subsidies and they will try to weaken case of India as leader of 3rd world countries at WTO negotiations as we have taken stand strongly opposed to agri subsidies in West. But we may counter argue it.( He was not satisfied frm my answer and repeated his question which I answered though in a different way but with same line of argument)
-main cause of pendency in judicial system, remedy for that..
Sir this whole line of argument that one main reason is itself wrong as it is cumulative cause of many factors (though he said again one main cause, I repeated sir i will tell u major causes … to which he agreed) I quoted small duration of court hours and long vacation (at this he said I was looking for this) along with that there is issue of vacancies, adjournments, cooperation b/t bar and bench.
M3
-Is Judicial Activism (ongoing)good or bad ? In Brief (he specified)
No sir it is not good because it goes against the separation of power in our constitutional scheme. (He said ok )
-Should the powers of CPF be increased, decreased or untouched for their effective functioning?
Sir the powers shd be kept same as they are provided in the Union List entry 2A which specifies they are to aid and advice state police forces and even SC has said that they are only for that and not to substitute them. If we increase them that would be curtailing the autonomy of states> we can go for better coordination in CAPF and State Police.
M4
-What is methodology u want for ur Phd? (In brief)
Mam, I would be conducting a non doctrinal research which would be of comparative nature. In this I would be comparing US act and EU’s act with that of India.
-What were ur duties as school head boy?
It was related to distribution of duties among School Prefects, House captains and representing concerns of students in front of school authorities.
-Did u had power of punishment? If no how u deal with students?
No mam I didn’t had punitive powers as such. I don’t believe in punishment as a system of reform rather I believe in persuasion, negotiation ans conciliation.
Thanks you Navdeep U may leave
