Finally, UPSC has declared the result for CSAT-prelim-2013 (for both IAS and IFS). Earlier The result system was= you enter your roll number and the UPSC website would tell you whether you’ve passed or not. But this time, UPSC adopted the desi method (uploaded PDF file that contains big list of roll numbers)
I’m uploading the same PDF files on google docs (because UPSC server will become slow as hell for a few days). click on the following links:
- Result: IAS/IPS/Civil Service candidates: click me to see resultĀ (~15000 selected)
- Result: IFS candidates: click me to see resultĀ (~1000 selected)
- Forgot roll number?Click me but you’ll need registration id
@Those who didnāt qualify
Try again next year with full strength, rectifying whatever shortcomings you had in your preparation. And if this was your last attempt, then my best wishes for all your future endeavors.
Back in 2010, a lady from Chennai committed suicide for failing in prelims, Even in CSE-2012 a guy from Banglore committed suicide. Please remember that setbacks and success will come but life is more precious than one exam, government job, girlfriend, boyfriend or (temporary) nagging of parents/relatives.
I take the liberty of copy pasting a few paragraphs from Mr.Tirumala’s blogspot:
//Start of copypaste//
When I started (UPSC preparation), I always dreamt about what I would do once I am a civil servant. I failed the first time. Thatās when things changed. Thereafter, I was more concerned about how to clear this exam than about what I would do once I become a civil servant. The question as to āwhyā I wanted to be a civil servant was relegated to some back corner of my mind. It was the exam and it was me. Years rolled by. Until this happened. I was too old for this exam and out of attempts.
(So) I am back in industry. My career is progressing well. Biwi and baby are fine. Life has changed. Priorities have changed. And I am moving on.
The job, the workload, project deadlines, cafeteria, cubicle, bitching about the HR policies and the wait for the next weekend. Itās all there. However, thereās one difference. I had the courage to risk it all. I once did. I lost the bet. And I know that I have the courage to build my dreams once more. Brick by brick, I will build. I believe this is my takeaway from this exam, where I didnāt, āqualifyā…….I spent a lot of time wondering why I didnāt make it to civil services. I thought I will carry the burden of this failure all my life and will never get over this….Thatās not so. I moved on, (and) quite well to my own surprise, I must say. In retrospect it looks so stupid of me to even think that I failed. I now look back with a smile…It must have been fun while it lasted. I now work in the field of aerospace with one of the biggest aeroplane makers in world, and I am proud to be an engineer.

Mrunal bhai…please give some valuable articles on economy and S&T for mains…Almost 2 months have been wasted reading such boring articles on world history and geography..All of this can be easily read and understood from Jain & Mathur…NCERTs are good for prelims, but mains demand a much deeper analysis and understanding which your articles are unfortunately lacking…Please stop this copy paste job..I request you humbly…
@Mrunal bhai…Im surprised to see the lack of urgency and intensity from your part. I wonder what can be more important for you than giving guidance to so many serious candidates who have been selected for mains. If you have taken the mantle to guide students, then please do it diligently. What is the point that when students develop trust and faith in your abilities, you start behaving like any other ordinary teacher? Hope you get what im saying. Regards
@Astrokid:Very rightly pointed by you.
we come here for dyanamic part of G.S and not for the static part which are available easily in books.
Yaar had ho gayi.Even coaching students do not demand so much from tutors the way you guys are demanding from mrunal.
i second somit bro..u have no right to demand authoritatively..mrunal is not ur tuition teacher whom u paid lot of money..so just shut up and wait for mrunal bhai to himself publish the articles
@deepak, i know we have no right to demand. He is doing a self less job it seems no doubt. But he himself has set up his own high parameters and standards and we are evaluating him based on those only. And yes i cant demand, but it is a humble request that more content is desperately needed for mains.
Judging by the fact that so many serious candidates visit this blog for guidance, and most have cleared prelims as well this year, mains should be treated on war footing. Im sure this concern will not or should not skip the attention of Mrunal. So many people look upto him and if he considers that he has a responsibility, then he should give importance to Mains more than any other exam. What unfortunately, he is just copy pasting stuff from standard books to keep the blog running and in the meantime he seems to be focusing on all other exams except Civil Service like RBI etc..
It may be important, but a good teacher is the one who can gauge the pulse of students and not do things as per his own convenience…We can only request.
Bhai logo! Jab baat IIT IIM walo ki hu rahi hai to listen : These peopole do not imagine UPSC during their graduation they only thought $$$$$$ packeg in MNC at US UK. Per mandi ne sabki hawa nikal di! And Before CSAT they also less majority apply for CSP due to OPTIONAL and 2 POTIONALS in mains.Unke bas ki baat nahi thi. But now due to CSAT they apply more this year some 8lakh appeared. Mains main 1 potion MATHS/PHYSICS/BIO/CHEM calta hai 2 potion rahte to samazta. UPSC has done attitude towards hindi/rural/poor/humanities students.IITns/IIMs walo ki to mains main hawa nikal jati hai but genuine candidates not get chance at mains.UPSC ki reputation POLITICIANS ne BAROBER kar di.
yaar why u people hating to much dr./er. ? they get selection after hard work ! comptition iz equal for u and us !
Minty is the greatest conspiracy theorist I have seen.
Surpasses ‘Dan Brown’ by a mile.
I beg you please write a novel for the sake of humanity!
whn upsc declared prelims 2012 result thousands of students claimed on this blog of scoring 230+ n nt being qualified,bt whn in 2013 upsc released cutoff of prelims no one claimed tht his/her mark ws more than cutoff bt couldnt clear,or upsc cheated.now again people r claiming their marks as high as 250+ bt nt in the list,n whn upsc will show their actual marks n cutoff in 2014,no one will say anything.my point is ‘why to blah blah now whn u cn knw ur marks n cutoff only nxt year,n u cnt do anythng neither now nor thn.
Had the same thought while reading junks…

Byzu and CL
hi my registration number is 11313860956, i lost my roll number….less hopes but still is it possible to check my result?
since the results are out…i kept myself busy watching news, reading paper, listening music, watching movies..but every day i get up in the morning with a heavy heart
Hello Everyone,
Hope your preparations are going fine. I have always been a silent observer in this site but today I couldn’t contain myself. I know of a number of my friends who have prepared for UPSC for over a year and they couldn’t clear the prelims. So, when the results were out and I cleared the CSAT, I wasn’t too happy about it. I started preparing around April’13 after filling up the application, thanks to the encouragement I received from my friends. Currently, I am working with a PSU and I can’t afford to quit job without first clearing UPSC. So, my preparations were basically post office hours. I also stay alone and I have a Labrador pup who was just about 5 months old then. It is hectic… work, home, taking care of myself and my pup plus preparation for UPSC mains. When I was preparing for CSAT, it appeared I won’t be able to complete anything. It was just one week before the exam that I thought I needn’t more strategy. I practiced CSAT paper II for 2 days, thanks to my ICSE convent education, it was a cake walk. For paper-I, I started going backwards (recent to older). I am also blessed with good recall memory so history, political science and geography from school was helpful. I am an MBA from a reputed college so I have studied my share of economics, too. All these, along with the prayers of well-wishers clicked.
My Mains prep. is going on and I hope and pray, that my strategy, planning and efforts will pay here too.
Keeping in view the current UPSC format, I would like to say one thing (borrowed from my friends):
CSAT is just to get to the Mains, it doesn’t matter how you crack it… what matters is you crack it.
Mains is all about your knowledge, understanding and presentation skills… you will have to work hard to develop these.
Interview is all about your attitude… you need to have a positive one.
Some of us have got to be in our jobs because we can’t afford to stop earning, at least for me that’s the case, but the fire and the desire to be an IAS/IPS/IFS should drive each one of us (the aspirants) to give our best each day.
To all, who cleared the prelims…. ALL THE VERY BEST FOR YOUR PREPARATION.
To all, who will clear it next time… ALL THE VERY BEST FOR YOUR PREPARATION AND STRATEGY.
Why you had to break your silence ? You didn’t mention that ! Anyway Thankyou for your wishes…
Good luck to you buddy, I don’t have a pup and probably I am not as smart , but I am also in a similar situation. Studying after job is tough but hopefully we’ll be able to get through.
Appreciate this heart pouring :)

Enough nonsense. Now some concerned thing – about 8 lakh applied out of witch some 299180-332388 actually appeared and about 14959 qualified 4 mains first time in UPSC history 20% as average. Those who claimed 250-300 are very rare candidates what about rest. Definitely cutoff rise but not astronomically. Actual situation at exam hall was different than now while attempting GS1 who knows what kind of GS2 will be. Therefore any wiser guys 55-60Q in GS1 get 100-110 n 60-70Q in GS2 will add 120-125. Rounded off high score 225-230. Hence cutoff may be 215-225, 200-215, 195-200, 185-195 catrgory wise. Rest are utter rumour .We all rumble due to PT result but reality is that GS1 was KILLER one although inviting.GS2 was not different we need to extra cautious while bubbling option under huge pressure – was of not that Q is wright or wrong but was what happen if we not get through and this ruin all. Out of exam hall all Q seems easy.
Sorry ! Pls read out of which…. n ….category wise…..
Thanking you!!!!!
I am opening the “minty fanclub”
Please, join me in the great cause.
I am in. Such a comic relief he is. Hope he continues till mains. He is proving himself a great stressbuster.
I am really getting tired of reading posts on posts of how UPSC is biased and all… I FAILED… I am not even hiding behind a pseudonym, this is me telling everyone who has an issue with CSAT paper 2 and with failure in general…
1) Analytical mind is different from the regular intelligent school topper mind, though not mutually exclusive… you have paper 2 because the indian bureaucracy is filled with people who have qualified with rote; scaling was one monster which was hard to be tamed and hence even engineers used to chose humanities for appearing in CSE (they still do)
2)Post 2009 the kind of questions have changed they check your concepts and your understanding along with factual knowledge, you need it all if you want to represent our nation in the topmost levels on the international fora
3)CSAT 2 is just to judge whether you have been sincere till your class 10th in maths and do you have enough logic in you… it is not the enemy on the other hand it is the friend, you start with thoughts like – I cant do maths or English is hard for me then start solving maths and learn the damn language
4)It is alright to have a soft corner for your regional language but since you are aiming for the INDIAN administrative services I suggest you get better in English and Hindi both instead of cribbing.
5)General studies is a giant, look at the mains syllabus this year; but it is after all GENERAL studies… you are not to expect that one year and one lac rupees in coaching should sail you through the exam… sit back and absorb the syllabus, you would realize that every single topic holds immense weight including the ‘economics of animal rearing’ because we after we’re selected have to work at every level with the society. to be a good civil servant we have to understand all of them in their entirety or at the very least attempt to do so.
6)just like you cant blame the earth to rotate and give you just 24 hours a day, you cant blame UPSC for your failures. so instead of cribbing about everything else around you prepare hard and rise above all of that which is holding you back.
7)It may be bad luck that you or I (235 expected without the decision making questions) didnt get through but the way i see it is, why didn’t i get 300+ I mean at the national level shouldnt you at least aim for 75% I mean even if the cut off did go to 240 or 250 it is just 60-65%… imagine you getting that in your college or school; would you be satisfied?? and I think we all know that it is neither our school or our college it is the bloody UPSC… it is the IIT-JEE or IIT-JEEs or the CPMT or CPMTs or any other equivalent you want to draw, it is the toughest exam you’d ever face so prepare like it.
Finally, all the best to all (me included) and we cant START with a negative thought and expect something positive out of it. so start right and finish great amigos!!

I am one of those unfortunate aspirant who could not qualify. Was expecting 200+, GS: 85-90 and Apti: 110-115 and was confidant of clearing considering the cutoffs for last 2 years for the OBC category. It took a while to recover from the shock but i just dont feel like quitting and have decided to give it a shot (though with a heavy heart).
On retrospecting i understnad that i need to improve my Aptitude score. Given the level of difficulty 180+ is gettable provided time is managed well. Can somebody who scores well consistanly share tips/strategies please?
was expecting a positive result vid 110 in csat n 85-90 in gs under sc category but upsc gave me a shock. i dont knw hw 2 recover 4m all dis all ovr again. it was my 4th attempt n i m workg,i wanna prepare with ful focus but i cant leave my job. dont wanna quit but yes at present feeling like a failure. help me sir if u can.

Wel finaly I cnt resist maself to write dis coment nd I knw sme people wil also get hurt after reading dis bt dats d truth. Dis year mere ek frnd ka last attempt tha upsc ka,nd he was nt able to clear prelims. U knw tears cme out of my eyes wen I heard that bcoz he was such a serius nd perfect candidate for civil nd he wantd to bcme ias not for power, money nd for anyothr thng but to serve the people of dis country. But unfortunately uska nhi hua bcoz of dese ssc exm preparng studnts, dese cat exm preparng students nd dese iitians jinka khi nhi hota to wo yha civil me muh marne aa jate he 6 mahine me lucent nd aptitude ki tyari karke nd fir mains me unki hawa tight ho jati he.bt unki wajah se ek serious candidate reh jata he Jo2-3 Sal se prepare kar rha hota he.ye sab 2 nd paper k dum pe clear kar jate he nd phir mains me cutoff hoti he kam unki wajah se.inhe koi matlb nhi he dese ki service se bas inhe to sarkari job, power, money,nd future secure se matlb he.just bcoz of dese nd upsc is also responsible for all dis thngs.
Oh baba terrified reading those news mentioned in hyperlink.i too appeared for prelims 2013 worked hard but could not able to clear. But to pass an exam should not the only motive.i have improved a lot in my English after reading the hindu newspaper.i have gained bulk of knowledge and I am happy that’s all matter.ias ips are mere a means to achieve it.
I love this site, it is very true. But after the prelims results got out i seriously hate to come here.People who didn’t clear have been venting their own frustrations here, and also some people are extolling the age -old myths about IITians and IIM people. This quality is found in Indians only, as somebody brought up in the west and recently came back to India , i ever feels so.We have still that ugly fuedal, superstitious mindset, always blaming about something we didn’t get.We have this temptation to blame, and bhailog, it won’t help you seriously.India is a great country, as we all know with its legendary civilizations and culture (As somebody who have been preparing for the next CSE i am proud about studying our history and i have been doing that with much passion), the glorious flags of the Mauryas, gupta’s,the finesse of our legendary poets like Kalidasa, the secular culture inculcated by our legendary emperors like Akbar, the struggles of our people for freedom, legends like Gandhi and Subhash, the martyrs, then the young nations pursuit for betterment, Nehruji’s dreams, and i don’t know what to say whatever flow we might be having we are a great civilization.
I wonder what really means IAS for people? In a country ruled by corrupt and bad politicians i see it as a beacon of hope to do something.Ok you can say that its is just a niave form of romanticism, i don’t care at all.But i seriously want to do that. And a ten people thinking like this would change our country, i promise you.
But i am saddened by the attittude shown bye aspirants here.I guess most of them see it a tool of perstige and power, thats why these IIT and IIM myths are coming. So What about Harvard and Princeton? What do you think about people out there? They are made of up of the same flesh as like me and you.So please don’t demotivate other people.
Lets dream and fight for a great dream.Be the fighters. It doesn’t matter you will win or not, but fight. That will make us more benevolent and more than that more human.Thank you
Jayadev what is ur email id? I am also an aspirant. I would like to get in touch with u. Mine is sathya7(at)gmail(dot)com. Maybe we can help each other out…
