I’ve closed the comment system, because aspirants wasting too much time in debate, rather than studying.
UPSC has uploaded the halltickets for CSAT-2014. No change in exam date. It’s same 24th august 2014, Sunday. No change in exam structure- same two papers. No change in negative marking, same 33%.

Why nobody from UP protesting over the coming UP PCS exam which is based on csat pattern….
some news showing in headlines today…Prelims is postponed for a month and csat is scrapped….but upsc website is not saying anything…i think it may be informal news….
@Mrunal sir….sir plz release the survey videos in English…unable to understand few difficult words of Hindi (may be my Hindi is not good)…or at least when can i expect the survey articles in English? plz sir release them asap
@Mrunal why articles are dried up. Some motivation is needed to keep pushing.
Upsc secretary N.Sachdeva,
accepted our application (signed by 30 students who were physically present there) personally and assured us some result in 2-3 working days. This is for those candidates who were facing problem of non issue of admit card due to show cause of message “your application not accepted due to incomplete part 2 registration”…….kindly join this community for regular update on this issue https://www.facebook.com/groups/260699937456735/…..
1. The CSAT was introduced in 2011, hence this (2014) will be its fourth occurrence, why has the issue become a major one only recently? What were the students waiting for in the previous two years?
2. It has been 3 years since CSAT. Why can’t one accept the fact, learn and move on? Why can’t we get ready to face the challenge in 2014?
3.Many students of Science background opt for subjects from Arts as their optional subjects in Mains. When they can study an MA-level subject in one year’s preparation, why can’t these students study functional English in three years’ time?
4. The students complain of a bias against students from regional language backgrounds, especially Hindi. The question paper consists of 80 questions in which only eight questions are sans Hindi translation. Can’t aspirational leaders of tomorrow’s bureaucracy and representatives of India at international stages answer eight questions in English?
5. The aspirants, while giving the exams, have to pass a full-fledged 300-mark English written paper in the Mains exam. If they cannot cope with the stresses of the Prelims question paper, how can they expect to pass the Mains exam?
6. Since the question papers are translated into English and translations made in Hindi for the remaining 72 questions, why demand the scrapping of the entire paper, why not just eight questions?
7. The notification of the UPSC states that the question papers will be set in both Hindi and English, so the regional language students already have to be adept at both languages. Why then are they stressing the Pro-English bias of the paper, when before CSAT as well, the papers were only in Hindi or English?
8. The notification also states, “English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level)” will be tested. When the minimum eligibility is Graduation for appearing in the exam, why do graduate students have a problem with class 10 Class or below level English?
9. English is a global language. Most of the work of the Government in India, and a larger majority of the work around the globe – especially between nations – is conducted in English. How then can this group function if selected tomorrow?
10. English is among the five recognised languages of the United Nations Secretariat. If tomorrow they are selected into the Indian Foreign Service where they have to interact with the UN, will these aspirants manage the work in Hindi?
11. The entire training aspect of post selection, including in Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA, Mussoorie) is conducted in English. How will these aspirants cope with the training later on? Or will they quit because they cannot fathom the mysteries of training being offered in English?
12. Agreed that knowledge of English does not make a better Civil Servant, but lack of knowledge and the ignorance of English only makes for worse performers.
This much research you have done uselessly to protect English besides that if you had tried to get the real essence of this protest then you wud not be writing here. Why so sad dude whatever would be happen that will be for all.Protesters are not demanding reservation of seats, they just want an equal chance.15000 students are not morons as you are trying to prove. And don’t worry one who can pass cs exam, can learn and face challenges whether its learning English or sumthing else.
that does not require any research bro, only a little contemplation and one can clearly see that this demand of scrapping the entire csat paper is a bit unjustified. clearly some changes need to be made but that essentially needs to be done by changing the marking pattern i.e. upsc could raise the minimum qualifying marks in paper I to 70 and in paper II to 100. the real issue was with poor translation of english passages into hindi but citing the general mental ability as engg biased or urban biased is not a sound argument at all. unnecessarily making it an issue of India vs Bharat will invariably lead to politicisation. don’t have a parochial mindset man, take up the challenge and learn to fight. and FYI hindi is the language i can speak and write better than english.
70 in GS PAPER 1 and it’s a cutoff…………. are u mad?
u can rest assured kashish that i am completely sane and in my senses to have suggested 70 as the qualifying marks in paper I coz believe it or not if u can’t score even 70 out of 200 in first paper then the preparation is clearly incomplete and invariably will reflect in either low marks in mains if mains is cleared or even worse not even clearing mains.
totally unwarranted unjustified demand to scrap the csat, format be changed accepted, over importance given to csat in a way csat has become a scoring subject. this needs to change. ask for scrapping the optionals totally, let all of them write gs papers in a language what they want and remove the language papers. now it will be level playing field.
UPSC plz introduce computer science Engineering and see the wrath. 300+/500 confirm in any case. May be 400 . But UPSC knows a topic disaster management that’s why they are not introducing this subject. Internal security breached by UPSC aspirants . Terror of “CSAT” , let’s kill terrorism (by few aspirants). UPSC should ask a question regarding bad effects upon society , future of India , unity of India bla bla in Final mains paper. hehe
dost u r highly mistaken. If dat were the case, we hav enuf masters of maths who can get 450/500 easily only if it were a university exam. Here irrespective of ur absolute score, scaling brings u at par with other subjects. Anyways a few state Psc alreafy hv cs as an optional. I dont see much of s/w engg cracking exam there.
Guys pl stop wasting ur time on these useless arguments….. utilise ur time efficiently to make it a worthwhile attempt……. by the way. …. my first comment on this site….. I am from humanities background. … and I support csat fully but just just have 2 issues which I shall articulate….. 1. The per question weightage of the 2 papers is the real none of contention as csat offers each question for 2.5 marks hence giving greater advantage to those who are better at it. 2. Intelligence tests and theories believe that aptitude can not be fully quantified and measured thus giving greater weightage to csat scores in final the merit may not be fully correct. …. may be making it a qualifying exam but at the same time placing a higher qualifying criteria may be a better idea…… and yes better translation in other languages is needed NOT JUST IN HINDI…. though this I believe will be logistically difficult if not impossible. ….. well no biases against anybody but indian administration needs both technically qualified engineers …. docs….. lawyers…. and the other non technical people like us….. I hope I have plainly put across my views with neutrality and respect….. without hurting any fellow aspirants sentiments. ….. good luck to all.
I think people will so much time in just guessing, protesting, posting threads etc.,
People debating here, making fun, posting logical illogical arguments etc. simply wasting time.
3 cases
1. No Change
—>> Those who are strong in CSAT-2 should focus on Paper-1, those in paper-1 should focus on paper-2.
—->> Actually many don’t attempt all questions of paper-2 as comprehension is time consuming. so its not about just comprehension, its about speed and accuracy.
(not using hindi/english medium, its all about how much you are strong in paper-2, many hindi medium students cracking CAT and scoring 190+ in CSAT)
2. CSAT is scrapped
—->> Again people strong in paper-2 have to focus more on paper-1
The conclusion of above is we have to be strong in GS to clear pre as well as mains.
Although there will be advantage/disadvantage (better to say edge over others) to any group for any change
3. If english comprehension is removed and instead of those questions, maths and logical reasoning questions will be put then it will be more advantage to people strong in paper-2. Because comprehension takes more time and they will be able to invest that time in logical/maths questions.
*** I think the actual problem is we are not assure of syllabus even less than a month is remaining for prelims so ultimately we are suffering not bcz of change or no change but because of confusion regarding syllabus and upsc/govt is responsible for this. Even if they remove any paper at last moment then also it will be injustice to many aspirants ***
For all people posting here: Hardly anyone of you either post in complete good english or good hindi, majority post in HINGLISH. So, by language all are on same boat.
Anyway, by any decision on syllabus or pattern, some of us will get benefit some of us not. These things will continue forever.
its difficult to adopt CHANGE. Its natural tendency to resist change. India is a democratic country, we have right to speech and expression. So, let put your views if you want but don’t fight with each other as this won’t be beneficial for any of us. We will just waste time in such discussions. Better to focus on our weak points and make them strong.
Just see toppers marks in Paper-1 (its around 120) so even if paper-2 is gone, we have to score 50-60% to clear prelims, which can be expected).
Good luck guys, keep posting keep studying…
(Best way is to study hard and when you want to relax read post comment here :) that’s what I do)
Thanx mrunal for this post-not for the content, but for the comments. More dumbos wasting time over good-for-nothing ‘scholarly’ comments over why csat should be/shouldnt be scrapped= less competition!!
Keep the comments going guys..!! :P
May be c sat is gone
i guess u also just posted one. welcome to the club man!!!!!
Hehehhe…… Maar lisss…

Three men start together to travel the same way around a circular track of 11km. Their speeds are 4, 5.5 and 8 kmph respectively. When will they meet at the starting point for the first time? Ans 22 hours… Can anybody plz solve this
Yaha par high level bakwas chal rahi hai, kripya karke apna sawal uchit sthan par post kare …
3 of them meeting again:means each one of them has completed an integral number of rounds around the track; which means the distance travelled by each will be a multiple of 11.
Distance=speed x time.
We know the speed of each one.
Trial and error method:
Substitute the time from given options.
check which option gives you the distance travelled by each,a multiple of 11km(the length of the track).
Eg. take 22 hours
Dist. travelled by A= 4 x 22=88km(11 x 8)
by B= 5.5 x 22=121( 11 x 11)
by C= 8 x 22=176(11 x 16)
So 22 CAN be the answer, as I dont know other options.
for all of dem 2 meet at starting point, distance covered by each of them shud b a multiple of 11. So we need a minimum n so that speed x n = a multiple of 11.
Since speeds are not a multiple of 11, so n has to be a multiple of 11.
N can be 11 22 33.
If n = 11, 11×5.5 is not a complete multiple of 11
If n=22, speed x n is a complete multiple of 11 for all.
Hence n = 22
LCM(11/4,11/5.5,11/8)=22hrs
Thanks…
simple, LCM
It happened only in this case that LCM turned out to be the first time when they meet for the first time at starting point just because Revolution time of each is given in terms of Circumference. Otherwise when the (Circumference and Individual Times) are given independently then the problem would have turned tricky.

Mr.Pihu, the question is about time interval for meeting two or more coincidences, in order to find the minimum time gap between the two or more coincidences you have to find the L.C.M of 4,5.5 and 8 kmph respectively…. U will get the L.C.M of 22 hours as the answer just try it buddy
csat is almost certain to goo now…as per t latest news sources….if u look t whole issue it started with change in english translation..gov /upsc didnt respond….thn they asked remove english comprehension…now issue have grown so much tht they want to remive t whole csat…if gov wud have been little more sincere in solving it thing wud have been under control….there is no doubt CSAT was good step towards reforming UPSC…but we cant deny t fact tht this exam need better administrator who knows india’s problem and can give better solution….so CSAT CAN BE MADE INTO a totally a new format where u test “decision making” ability more thn “CAT” style aptitude…y they hell they have introduce decision making question wr it got no values (just 6 ,7 question)…
PRELIMS delayed by 45 days.Instead of csat optional paper will be there. mains will be on feb2nd week.
source-UPSC & PMO
agar optionl kr diya to phr kitna hungama hoga iska andaaza bhi nhi lga skta…………….

Changes recommended to CSAT by the committee and all set to be adopted:
– Tamil comprehension passages (no translation) along with English to even out the field
very authentic, cant name the source.
arre bhaiyo abhi koi decision nhi aya h…… 1 week lgega abhi
Another highly authentic confirmation from my insider sources.
CSAT will be replaced by HSAT – “hunger strike aptitude examination.”
Candidates to be locked in examination centres without food, water. Last 10 candidates standing per centre to qualify for mains and 10 glucose bottles.

as far as i understand the students dont have problem math and reasoning but with english comprehension translated into very poor hindi which even a phd in hindi will find hard to comprehend. but the intention of UPSC behind comprehension is beyond doubt as a bureaucrat required to read many reports in English to take appropriate decision. protesters should understand the purpose of comprehension and take it A CHALLENGE. i am also a aspirant with hindi medium and my whole educational background is in hindi. my only request to UPSC is make the cut off equal in both paper tabhi competition ka maza ayega……
as far as i understand students with hindi medium dont have any problem with math and reasoning but with english comprehension with very poor hindi translation which even a PhD in hind will find hard to comprehend. the hind translation is of no use and does not serve the purpose. But i think the intention of UPSC behind comprehension is beyond doubt as a bureaucrat required to read many reports in english to take appropriate decision. this is reason why UPSC has given most importance to comprehension and only fault of UPSC is that the hindi translation is REALLY very poor otherwise the whole csat paper is very good. i am also a aspirant in hindi medium and my whole educational background is in hindi. i request to hindi medium students not to waste their energy in protest but to take csat paper as a CHALLENGE ….. and prove that you can also compete with technical/management/medical students. Higher the challenge, Higher the growth….
csat will not completly removed so dont give up fighting ….if its then will be also good
Mrunal,
Why you are biased against regional languages, especially Hindi ?? Why not your articles are in Hindi ? Google translation of your article in Hindi is not providing proper translation – it is misleading !!! You should change pattern of articles – infact change the language itself……. Your articles in English is too hard for us to interpret. We are future civil servants and are against any use of English as our communication medium.
With Best regards
[Does it sound familiar considering the CSAT protest ? :) :) ]
Mrunal is just a human being , not a God. Itna kuchh free me de raha hai aur kitna chahte ho.
mere pyaare hindi madhyam bhai………
mrunal sab best kar raha hai…..
tumhara khud comment full angrezi mai hai……
Mrunal best hai bhai………no bias……..
First of all… students like you should give up civil service if you find such simple englsh used by mrunal tough to interpret… what would you do if you were to join foreign service?? Talk in hindi with russian american diplomats?? Show some spite and pick up raymond murphy and start now…
Aaj tak and ABP news.. ye news trader hai bhai..inpe bharosa na rakho..
