UPSC has uploaded the halltickets for CSAT-2014. No change in exam date. It’s same 24th august 2014, Sunday. No change in exam structure- same two papers. No change in negative marking, same 33%.

- I recommend you bring clipboard. Reason: Sarkaari colleges and highschools have benches have rough surface and holes. It’ll “injure” your OMR sheet while you’re marking answer in black pen.
- if you’ve applied twice, then Use HIGHER REGISTRATION number while downloading the hallticket.
- If your hallticket doesn’t have clear photo/signature, you will have to bring a photo identity proof viz. Adhar Card, Driving License, Passport, Voter I Card etc. and two passport size photographs one for each paper with an undertaking.
- Save your own hallticket PDF file in google drive. So there is no fear of misplacing/forgetting roll number.

The timings can be questioned in courts i believe. After all it’s the Civil services PT. And keeping in mind the syllabus one should be notified well advance in time to prepare accordingly.
So legally it can always be challenged and depends on the discretion of courts to consider or ignore such developments of an autonomous body surrendering to political pressure.
No , whatever has been advertise cant be changed without further notice and that notice must give adequate time for preparation so be sure no changes would be made .

english / CSAT virodhi aspirants ko reservation diya jaye… they can have a separate category of any suitable name ..contributing factors will be other categories ..
ST-1 %, SC-2 % , OBC -3 % & GEN-4 % ..total = 10 % for (any suitable name category ) .
It will ensure representation of deprived sections , timely conduct of examinations and continuation of current format without compromise on quality .

Kisi third-party se(say IBPS) ek online survey karwaye UPSC. Sabhi logo ki mail ID to hogi hi. Ek notification k baad YES/NO type survey karwaye with proper authentication! 1 main sawal ho CSAT hona chahie ya nhi or 3-4 supporting sawal ho ya kuch suggestion bhi le saqti hai(offcourse redundant hoga). Kisi psychologist ki madad le saqti hai UPSC.
And then apply analytical skills and desicion making, comparing proper percentage figures of different language aspirants!! Or nateeje public kare.

Todays news in the hindu dat if no major changes in the csat process den they might go to court for directing upsc for scaling process for csat or worse is that they might plea to court for cancellation of the upsc cse notification 2011,2012,2013 !
Though thats a remote possibility but if it did happen den would all the recruitment ll in last three years would be cancelled ?? Highly ridiculuos .
Dis is the height of poor governance. This govt is so weak that started bowing to hindi lobby ( though i firmly believe it has hidden support also of the govt) as first they asked for 9 ques. Them 40 and now full csat. In tv dey say dat dey dont want csat to be scrapped but in processions they say d opposite. Ppl in dis blog saying dat we dont know the issue, i think first dis hindi lobby should articulate their grievance properly first only den we can debate.

if the current pattern continues along with pegging IFos also with the prelims then one has to shut down all humanities,life sciences,forestry and other “lesser” disciplines across the country. Sad but true that no matter what other exams do UPSC prelims must ensure a policy of “positive” discrimination towards the humanities and the vernacular languages.That is the right way to go about it and the only way.

and pray tell me about the IFos poor folks…forestry students from sirsi,ponnampet,coimbatore,dehradun are out because some genius thought “merging” the two exams would be a great idea…the kala committee wanted a cutoff for gs and general English in the old pattern not delisting it and make a fanciful merger..now we have engineers and others who just tick Ifos optional killing genuine aspirants and then also make it to the upsc list thus leaving a void and preventing deserving candidates…this time hardly 500 “ELIGIBLE” candidates wrote ifos mains…..great way to kill one more service..next bring indian economic and statistical service also under the ambit of prelims…let there be 4 rank lists with 80% common candidates and an eventually depleted allied services!!!

@Rudra: As if engineers are some born genius!! Merely by ticking on IFoS they can clear it without even having to prepare for second optional subject?? Only a genuine IFoS candidate will be able to clear it and not just any one (Engineer!) who is preparing for UPSC. IFoS still have two optional subjects unlike UPSC where we have only one optional subject.
Even before merging the two exams, engineers and others used to apply for IFoS
and till 2012 70% were forestry and botany/zooology grads..see what happened now.
What’s the point? Then you will say why do those who have cleared CS once shouldn’t be allowed to appear again?

Disclaimer : I am an engg & mba and i have been a big beneficiary of CSAT as i have been clearing prelims with ease in spite of low scores in GS(except for last year).
I think csat should be removed or made qualifying. Non-hindi speakers really get a raw deal. They do know english but when pitted against IIM/IIT/CA and other good mba and engg. college students, its not a fair game. They may be slow in comprehending english (though they may be conversant in english) and it matters a lot in an exam of just 2 hrs. I agree language Chauvinists have hijacked this issue, but there is some merit in their arguments. Also in aptitude too, its become highly formula and trick based. Without coaching in numerical and mental ability its difficult to crack esp. when competing with engg/mba. People have argued that its only 10th level but theres a big difference if a person with10th standard ability in RC/quants competes with engg/mba. The argument that they learn polity, geo, history, eco is dubious. These subjects are must for any ias aspirant worth his salt. These are very subjects which figure in mains too. Plus for a history student, eco or polity may be equally difficult as its for an engg. But they too learn it. Anyway the scope of these questions too have reduced in GS, so where is the question of handicap for engg/mba in GS? Some argue that rote learning/kachda crowd is protesting. But b4 2011 people from this very crowd managed to be selected and have performed well. Celebrity IAS officers should look within b4 voicing opinion on TV/newspaper.
If one qualifies for mains just by scoring 50-60 in gs, its a loss for the country as well. Diversity of students is also being compromised as more engineers are streaming in.
UPSC can instead go for 2 GS paper which will give more scope to test candidates suitability for Mains. Preliminary is a rejection mechanism and not a selection. Aptitude Questions can always be included in this paper like it was b4 2011. Few comprehension questions (with suitable translations) can also figure. Its time ‘some’ engg/mbas who have had a backdoor entry into mains look within. Language is not an indicator of management/administrative ability. Its just a medium. Pls focus on GS and stop this name calling which both camps have indulged in. Its just my opinion and i may be wrong.

CSAT aptitude paper does not test anything significant. The questions in maths and reading comprehension are very basic in nature.However, what it ensures is that the cut offs are inflated. As a result someone who is weak in aptitude cannot expect to clear on GS score. So weakness in one aspect of the test ensures that such students are not selected. People who score more in GS have surely spent more time preparing for the UPSC exams. UPSC as an exam tests rigor and discipline and commitment. That was the whole idea of having an optional subject. It intends to let you choose the topic in which you want to be tested and it will test you on the depth of knowledge. The aptitude paper surely puts students from rural back gound at a disadvantage. I suggest a following solution:
1 Paper – 300 Marks – 3 hours
150 Questions – 100 GS 50 CSAT – 2 type.
This ensures that even if one is weak in CSAT, they can cover up in GS and Aptitude does not become the single parameter of selection. This will be a more even competition. I say this knowing that my chances of clearing will be severely reduced because I got 74 in GS and 180 in Aptitude last year. But that is the joy of competing in a fair system. What is the point of clearing an exam when its a handicap match for some people?
1.Is it a matter of language?
2. Is it a matter of translation?
3. Is it a matter of appearance of English medium/Engineering/Management students?
If its a matter of language, then question paper is set in English and Hindi and Hindi medium students are facing problems then where are the other regional language students stand, just imagine but they are mute.
Also they are not happy with the question which are asked, like syllogism, family relation, decision making (heard when visited Mukharjee Nagar for a book) and the logic they give “kya DM ban ke hamein ye karna hai ki Sita kahan baithi hai aur sabhi mej kursi hai :-)”. It shows they don’t know why these questions are asked or they are making an excuse which will fall in one hearing. About comprehension which is about 30-35 question they complain the language is not understandable. Then its not the headache of anyone. If anyone believe that because their conversation is in Hindi so they know Hindi very well is utter false. They should increase the vocabulary in the same fashion as English student does by reading newspaper/magazines because meaning of pollination in Hindi is and will be “paragan” and its not tough because you don’t know.
2. If its a matter of translation then say how many word or questions but it is ridiculous to say the whole paper is wrong. Its a human error can be rectified then question comes when? and answer is when you bring the details in the light either via judiciary or executive, but you waited till final result even if there is discrepancies so there is no point to shout just few weeks before the examination. Just ask if any changes come on your shout then what about to all those aspirants who are practicing since a year.
3. If it implies the third then you are violating the Art 16 pf Indian constitution. Engineering/Management/Science students face problems because a number of subjects are not in list which can be taken as optional. After reading Engineering/Management/Science subject they read all the humanities subject and when they grab enough marks then people says GEOGRAPHY, PUBLIC AD, PHILOSOPHY etc easy for them. Even the pattern changes they will be upper hand and this is not because they are intelligent but because they practice (Set) a lot since 12th upto degree (In one semester in one subject 45 classes about 20 tutorials and 5/6 presentation-IIT) and you people jumps from this coaching notes to that coaching this book to that book and aspire 100% they read only for 70% and also they are now rushing towards UPSC so even for them there is tough competition among them. Your empire can be saved by only one way, just practice more otherwise infiltration is on high speed.
ONLY ONE PROBLEM IS THERE, VERY LESS AMOUNT OF AUTHENTIC, RELIABLE , MATERIAL(BOOK/MAGAZINE) FOR HINDI MEDIUM FRIENDS AND HEAVY AMOUNT OF COACHING NOTES…

CSAT will have to stay acc to me, as there is no empirical evidence to show that it is either rural biased or english biased. There are deeper reasons for the perceived bias.
wow!! this is awesome..i had added arihant csat-2 book to my cart..it costs around 775 had come down to 459..now is around 155 !!! phew….it’s a bloodbath out there….quick people….time to sell your csat book chappies!!

Students should change their strategy of studying for preparation of any exam as per the modified/updated syllabus, not revolt against the changed syllabus to scrap the exam altogether.
More weightage to GS paper should be given- agreed, but scrapping CSAT is not justified.

CSAT aptitude paper does not test anything significant. The questions in maths and reading comprehension are very basic in nature.However, what it ensures is that the cut offs are inflated. As a result someone who is weak in aptitude cannot expect to clear on GS score. So weakness in one aspect of the test ensures that such students are not selected. People who score more in GS have surely spent more time preparing for the UPSC exams. UPSC as an exam tests rigor and discipline and commitment. That was the whole idea of having an optional subject. It intends to let you choose the topic in which you want to be tested and it will test you on the depth of knowledge. The aptitude paper surely puts students from rural back gound at a disadvantage. I suggest a following solution:
1 Paper – 300 Marks – 3 hours
150 Questions – 100 GS 50 CSAT – 2 type.
This ensures that even if one is weak in CSAT, they can cover up in GS and Aptitude does not become the single parameter of selection. This will be a more even competition. I say this knowing that my chances of clearing will be severely reduced because I got 74 in GS and 180 in Aptitude last year. But that is the joy of competing in a fair system. What is the point of clearing an exam when its a handicap match for some people?

and that’s why they should have retained the optional in the prelims and changed the mains as it is now…with time and tide even the prelims could have been later modified..this sudden change has pissed off many!!!
