Request: share your exam experience
RBI Grade B officer (Preliminary) exam was held on August 3, 2014 (Sunday) in two sessions. But since this exam is to be conducted online=>difficult for next years’ aspirant to find “previous question” papers. Therefore, I request all the readers, to share following data AFTER exam is over, in the comments below.
- What was the Span of current affairs latest and oldest topic asked in General Awareness?
- How much PIN (persons in news?) by the way, PIN-2014 series has been uploaded long time back. in case you missed, go to https://mrunal.org/current#pin
- General idea on “topicwise breakup” – in general awareness. How much economy (budget related), how much banking sector related and so on. Did they ask computer awareness in it?
- How tough was English section compared to SBI PO and CSAT?
- How tough / lengthy was Maths/DI section compared to other exams. Did they ask chillar questions like profit loss, or was it entirely focused on lengthy data interpretation as in SBI PO? what was the overall breakup?
- Reasoning section: did they ask high level reasoning like syllogism, assertion-reasoning, course of action etc?
- Other observations about pattern, trend, wisdom, tips for future aspirants.

the paper was relatively easy . but time factor has to be kept in mind. proper planning to be done before exam regarding which section to be attempted first and within what time frame as per your liking and strength. do not spend much time solving lengthy questions or getting stuck at some question. keep moving to the next question as soon as possible. 200 questions in 130 mins is some challenge .also keep in mind sectional cutoff criteria. AT LEAST SOLVE 50-60% in EACH SECTION TO KEEP YOURSELF IN RACE. don’t be too overconfident so as to over-attempt nor be too nervous as to under-attempt. try to solve 15 questions each in english and maths section and then move to reasoning solve around 30-35 questions with assurity and lastly move on to the general awareness section as it takes the least amount of time acc to me .Having said that practice a lot and plan well !!!
WISH U GOOD LUCK FOR FUTURE :)

Quantitative section was lengthy.
5 question were like two equations were given, we had to solve them and find out relation between x and y

1 question was – the sum of radius and height of cylinder is 26 cm and total surface area is 1144 cm2. find out the volume
around 10 questions were from 2 types of DI. there was too much calculation. in one DI, table was of 5 villages, % of literacy in each of them, ration of literate male and female and ratio of illiterate male and female were given.
in 2nd DI, circular type. data of total book (academic and non-academic) sold by 6 shops was given in % and data of total academic books sold by 6 shops were given.
1 question was – A, B, C has to type 464 pages, A can type 1 page in 16 min, B in 28, C in 32 min. if they want to type for the same time, then how much pages B will type?
5 questions were like a series of numbers were given, and we had to find out which one is wrong.
1 question was from boat. distance between A & B is 48 km. a boat takes 4 hours less in downstream than in upstream. what should be boat speed so that it covers 75 km in 5 hours in downstream.
Reasoning section was too long and that spoiled all my time.
3 puzzles were given. 15 to 18 questions were asked from these.
5 questions from statement – conclusion
5 questions were cause and effect type
5 questions from syllogisms
5 questions from blood relations
though i attempted 50 to 52 questions but that spoiled my English section and i could attempt only 10 questions. hence no chance of selection. all the best to everyone

English -19
QA -11
Thank you
I wrote morning session from chennai!
80 questions of gs took 23 minutes to read and answer 63 of it.
27 qns of english took 21 minutes to answer with a good hit ratio ( I hope )
16 quants questions took me another 27 minutes with probably 14 , and two doubtful answers.
36 reasoning took the rest 59 minutes for me.
I am new for these bank exams after unsuccessful UPSC attempts.Although the problems are not anything unsolvable, it is the time factor i think that is making these exams extremely competitive and more challenging when compared with CSAT reasoning/ DI.

GA – Easy /doable -one should know what to leave to avoid losing marks in this scoring section. 50 kiye
VA/English – Easy – although the jumbled sentences was tough 23 here.
QA – 25 – easy to avergage ..what to slect and what to avoid is the key.
LR – Tough – MBA exam level did only 19..this will be the game changer .
Overall cutoff definitely far lower than the last year

……G….. Phhaadd k rakh diya RBI ne….
paper was quite tough time management is need of the exam attempt every section and only last 6 moths current affair required in addition to economic knowledge
General awareness section:
Author of books- Low land, bend in the river
Raghuram rajan succeeded whom
Relation between bank- customer in a credit card transaction
2 qns on abbreviation of NEFT and functions of RTGs
To identify non-SAARC country from the given options
What does c represent in SAARC full form
What happened to MH 370
India’s finance minister?
To identift non-tangible asset from the options
Last year, the GA section was highly titled towards management side and analysis oriented which required one to read and understand the q’n carefully b4 going for it. This year it was all trivial GK where some questions could be answered at one go. A few took less than 2 seconds.
Overall, it was a cakewalk for ppl who follow newspapers. One who read newspapers judiciously could have attempted more than 70. Attempted 75
Quant:
It was a nightmare for me. The large chunk of it comprised of identifying wrong numbers, DI, quadratic equations.
Last year DI portion was quite simple. Mit be this year they have taken cue from SBI PO..DI portion was very lengthy, even I couldnt crack one wrong no question..being a student of Law background,,quadratic eqns were no easier.
Overal, i think RBI has tightened their strings in this section. Could attempt only 10.. This could hamper my chnaces of making it to the list
Reasoning:
This section was same as any other ibps paper..qns on seating arrangement, ppl living on which floor etc, weakening arguments n vice-versa, syllogism( simple), A>B B>C, relationship between A and C( i do not know what this qns are called, so left a small example, bt the original ones were not easy as given above..
Attempted abt 30..one should be able to manage atleast 40 if u use ur time wit proper planning.
Attempted 32
English:
Questions based on comprehension( synonyms antonyms were included in the same), re- arranging jumbled sentences and other usual stuff. Bt there was one section which was very novel and i didnt come across such qns in ny odr exam.
A small 30 worded paragraph was given and we were to identify if the paragraph could be started in the way given in the options. For example,,I pursue my hobby only when i feel bored and have nothing else to do..can the sentence be:
1) My hobby….
2) I feel bored..
This section is of mediocre level..attempted al
general awareness questions were like
1)PMs first foreign visit,3 question
2)from cabinet minsters(as this was election year)3-4 question
3)head of world bank
4)doctor in cabinet
5)cad how much??
6)which country praised India for inviting pak PM in swearin ceremony
7)role of RBI
8)not handled by RBI?
9)fifa final in which city
10)which is scheduled bank
11)job of imf
12)sector who saves more
13)capital country match
14)country currency match
i am not able to recall many of them
in English
1)compare with meaning and antonyms
2)fill in the banks with almost 10 blanks in paragraph
3)in given option which can connect the above sentences.
4)arrange sentence
Reasoning
1)circular seating arrangement
2)two row arrangement
3)ranking (one is larger shorter etc from other
4)7 floors of building,a live on ground floor like that…
5)cause and effect
6)weaken and strengthen a statement
7)this time no syllogium
aptitude
1)mixture
2)ratio milk is removed and again mixture is removed what was original
3)two enequality eqn was given is x=y like that 5 question
4)only statement one can anwer the question,,only statement two can answer
Paper to theek tha except quant sirf 11 hi question kar paaya calculations bahut zayda thi…n last year ke comparison tough tha last year GA ka cut off 46 tha for gen cat.
No,GA ka cutoff 36 tha last yr
I noticed that there is clear 45% cut off in all sections last year, I had a belief that there would be cutoff based on the difficulty level of the section. My exam was in the afternoon session@Bangalore. I Was able to answer 75/80 in GK, 41/60 in Reasoning, 23/30 in English and 14 in Quantitative Aptitude. I should have done better in Quantitative Aptitude.
Span of Current Affairs: Most of the questions were from past 2 months(After Modi’s swearing in ceremony)
PIN: few on who wrote what?, Awards, etc
GK: More questions from Banking, There were hardly any economic concept. However one should have basic idea on international and National Financial institutions.
English: This section was easier, A passage and 10 questions on it, Alternative ways of writing 2 statements without altering their meaning in a single sentence(Its little difficult), Sentence reordering question.
Maths/DI:Hardly any questions from conventional Aptitude(Ratio, proportion, Speed, Time, Distance, Trains,SI and CI, percentage). A pie chart followed by 5 questions, A tabular column followed by 5 questions. Lot of calculation was required for questions of both type. There were 5 Data sufficiency questions. There were 5-7 quadratic equations in terms of x and y, for each of such question we need to compare values of X and Y. All remaining were most difficult Series questions.
Reasoning:Arrangement, Input/output questions, Strengthening and weakening Arguments, Comparisons of variables(a>b>c; bk; Some inferences on these questions), Syllogisms(3 statements only).
I guess the cutoff will be same through out the section as I have mentioned in the beginning. So give equal importance to all sections.
yes susmita ke question morng shift ke hai mai gs ke kuchh aur question add kr raha hoo mong shift ke 1 period of call money 2 living cost higher in which city 3

Hello Everyone…..
My RBI test is completed today. On this note let me share on how the paper was.
The General Awareness (Economy section) was pretty comfortable than expected. It included nearly 10 questions from very latest current affairs regard to FIFA, Modi cabinet, Awards, Stock Gk like the first Nobel laureate of Asia, Book Authors ( two questions). The other questions of economy were little direct in nature and few were lil tricky.
The English part was quite comfortable and it had one passage with nearly six questions and a paragraph with fill in the blanks. The other questions included sentence re arrangement case let with five questions.
The reasoning part was quite tougher (for me it was time consuming) with most of questions on dual arrangements. There were nearly 7-8 questions on Syllogisms. nearly five questions on assumption and inferences (were comparatively easy) and a caselet on Coding and decoding.
The Quant part was moderate it had nearly five to six questions on linear equations (two equations and conclusions were asked) and assertion-reasoning type of questions were present in four – six number. There were two questions on probability and one on geometry (cylinder) and two DI sets.
2nd Shift questions – some of them.

The GS/GK portion was not tough, many questions were current based.
English was also ok, passage not very complex, rearrangement wala question was not difficult, but the other questions were confusing.
Quant and Reasoning I found too tough – quant was very calculation intensive with 2 D.I. questions, finding the wrong number in given series – 6 of this type.
Reasoning screwed me bad – wasted about 15 mins on the table arrangement questions and failed to do them both.
this was my first time and time management was very bad – I had only about 15 min left for the GS/GK section in the end.
Attempt – reasoning – 36/60; quant – 15/30, english – 23/30, GS/GK – 62.
I think the quant section and reasoning will require separate preparation as the level of questions is difficult and a lot of practice is needed to do good in these sections.
i have attempted 122 questions…. what could be the cut-off for this paper…. please share your views….

completely agree with @ arpit…..!! the question were asked as it is mentioned above by arpit ..! general awareness was quite easy…! toughest was aptitude and reasoning..! there were few questions related to economic survey like current a/c deficit etc. also in general awareness..most of them was current affairs that too from latest govt. formation and its activities. english section was average…cant call it tough..!
