Introduction
- SSC CGL 2013 was to be held on 14th and 21st April.
- But 14th April exam was cancelled. Now that exam will be held on 19th May 2013. (Hence it is no longer conflicting with SBI PO exam date.) This is not a rumor. This is given on SSC’s Northern Region website click me
- This article contains analysis based on two papers of SSC CGL 2013, held on 21st April (KP series and PJ series) click me to download those papersets.

- SSC has continue the trend of last year (=less importance to conventional questions from profit-loss, time-speed, mensuration etc.) and more emphasis on geometry (theory), Trigonometry and algebra
- Roughly 2/3rd of the Maths questions are from Geometry, trigonometry, algebra and Data interpretation (DI) only.
- Although SSC chief remained kept his twitter promise: trigonometry and geometry portion bit easier than last time’s and most of the trigonometry questions could be solved effortlessly by the [Trigonometry] tricks explained on www.Mrunal.org/aptitude
- Usually DI portion contained only one “case” and 5 questions. This time SSC has given multiple DI cases.

- Compared to earlier years, SSC increased the number of non-verbal questions.
- Sitting arrangement (case containing 3-5 question) =absent.
- Otherwise question pattern/difficulty level similar to previous years.
General Awareness / GA-GK
- As usual, GA section was broadly made up of three parts: Static, Science and Crap.
- The message / lesson is clear: when it comes to the GA portion of SSC, don’t waste time chasing trivial current affairs. Because static (polity, history etc.) and science, is where your focus should be.

For this unusual delay due to paper leaks ,ssc should compensate 2 months salary to those who gets selected finally.
hahaha good joke ! u know what does SSC do when it comes to giving recruitment ?…this year they published the final result of CGL 2012 ON 8th Feb…6 months hv passed since then n they havent uploaded even Nomination status in some regions…its being assumed those finally selected wl get offer letters in december at the earliest…n take my word ths delay is nothing new…so better get used to SSC’S procrastination than to expect any sort of exceptional efficiency from ssc officials !

Seems you haven’t studied this subject in your Bachelor’s degree. In that case you are not eligible for that post. And by mistake if you attempt and clear it, you would be rejected at document scrutiny stage.
i have exercised compiler and SI as last options in preference so i was worried that would there be a compulsion now to attend the stats paper

Can check Mocks at Paramount Coaching Institute website. Don’t have the latest update but their first few tests were not covering full syllabus.Still, can be used to increase your speed.

Any idea why did this year they make a separate list for the post of tax asst. from the Tier I itself ? On the surface level seems like injustice has been meted out to those gusys b/w 92.5 to 96 marks, making their chances of recovery in Tier II impossible !

Don’t worry much about it for now. Concentrate on T2. Your query has been answered by Himanshu in the following comment.
It is 2000 key presses in 15 minutes. Even for GEN, errors upto 10% were allowed last time.

For all those who have qualified for tax assistant and are to give DEST. I have something to share. Last year i got selected for tax assistant and then cleared DEST. DEST is data entry test. You would be given a computer and an A4 size sheet with a paragraph written on it which will have 2000 key depressions. You will have to write it in an notepad file on computer and it will be saved automatically. and the result cutoffs will be calculated by ERROR % parameter. I think last time is was 5% error for GEN and 10% for SC,,,. means you cant do error more then 5%. Friends, dont worry…its just a simple qualifying test if u have simple typing speed u would easily clear it.
i got qualified in list2 ,can u pls share the nature of job as am depressed hearin that they r nt considerin us for other posts….just for 2-3 marks we r seperated as list1 n list2 its nt fair….

You needn’t worry though, just concentrate on preparation. Cut off for UR was 298/600 in Select List for TA.

I don’t think there was separate cut off for English and Quant in T2 last time. Don’t worry so much about marks, just focus on preparation and hope for the best.

Quant syllabus same as T1. But level will be a bit higher. So nothing to worry! Aim to get minimum 55-60 questions correct, don’t take undue risk when you are not fully sure about the answer as negative marking is 0.5 per incorrect answer.

Unfortunately I haven’t fared well in the T1, marked about 8-10(2-3 were correct due to repetition of options in some cases) questions incorrectly on the OMR during the exam, . So I cant afford to attempt anything less 90 and 180 in both the papers, lest I plan to contend for less :( … I do need to score about 400-420 in the exams so that interviews can cushion me to post 480 or something… Otherwise it will all be a waste :( …

A lot of practice is required to ensure you are able to attempt 90 in quant in T2. Accuracy matters more. Attempting 75 correct is better than attempting total 90(75 correct, 15 incorrect). So move on to next question if some question seems to be taking too much time. Just ensure you have a look at each and every question. And one can get answers to some questions more quickly/easily by using the options instead of solving.
I suggest all 200 questions should be attempted in English!
Everyone gets nervous during exam, but still the mistake of marking 8-10 questions wrong shouldn’t be repeated. Try solving mocks in 115 minutes(during exam 5-10 minutes are wasted in filling forms and similar tasks) at home. Or join some test series.
And don’t get scared for no reasons :P
WOW!! Really? 200 in English? I dont think that would be possible for me but then again it depends on the day. I left 2-3 in T1 and so proportionately planned 190.
Actually I was just too damn relaxed in that paper. Also I had a tiff with my parents about some petty issue. So I was really really mad…. For the 1st half hour wasnt able to concentrate… I remember being so disgusted with myself after the exam that I didnt even come home that day, had a sleep over at a friend’s. Why do our parents treat us like we are still 10 year old!! Oops..

T1 was different. Here it wasn’t possible to devote much time to one particular section due to shortage of time. But in T2 you be able to cover all questions in English.

Single book? None exists. But if you want one, and considering the time constraint, just try solved questions of Sarvesh Kumar Verma and have a look at L1 questions. It is not having much questions from trigno and geo, for which you can refer class Xth NCERT, which is available as pdf online.

Not much information about what kind of coding/decoding Cyphers have to do, but knowledge of languages other than English will surely help when you get foreign posting.
