Roll No.190192’s result is withheld, as per CAT direction.
~3000 candidates selected for the interviews. (3003, if I counted the lines and columns correctly.)
@Those who couldn’t make it
My heartfelt sympathies, but this is not “THE END” of life. Atleast now you’re not in limbo about the Mains-result…Now you can proceed with the next-plan you’ve for life and competitive exams. So make a resolute promise and devote your 2014 completely to achieve it. You’ve come this far- there is definitely to a decent career and life for you, Bas Ek baar man banaa lo—yaa toh mein iss paar, yaa uss paar ho jaaungaaa and let 2014 be that year. My prayers and best wishes have always been and shall always be –with every serious player.
@Those who cleared the mains-2013
Congratulations. Interviews likely to start from 7th April 2014 @UPSC headquarter in Delhi. You’ll get a call letter soon. UPSC will also update the timetable on its website.
In the meantime, start a Ph.D on your DAF form inside-out. Be it location based questions, or graduation based, or current or theory. Even wasting one minute is a sin.
Marksheets
UPSC will upload mark sheets of all candidates within 15 days after the declaration of final result i.e. after interview. The marksheets will stay there for 60 days. (and if last year’s system continues – then even candidates who failed in prelims, will be shown their prelim-scores and cut-offs.)
Call letters
- candidates who do not receive communication regarding their Personality Test, should immediately – contact the office of the Commission through letter or on Phone Nos. 011-23385271, 011-23381125, 011-23098543 or Fax No. 011-23387310, 011-23384472.
- No request for change in the date and time of the Personality Test intimated to the candidates will be entertained.

Sociology avg marks
very much unexpected …..dont know which part I spoiled in mains 2013 , according to my calculations everything was ok. do not know what went wrong with my answer scripts , might be pub ad paper 1 was a game spoiler , will know further when mark sheet is out…….very disappointed
same here..
I don’t know where is the fault…
Try to point out the gaps in ur prep. Based on it make a strategy and go for killing no if and but be eagle…predatory …..Survival of d fittest is d rule of nature. Man this world(UPSC) is not about mediocres. U have to excel if u wanna b at pinnacle.even C.
WRIGHT MILLS also talks about elite rule i.e. those who excel in various spheres rule the state.Though therories can be contested but still they can be utilised in specific circumstances..
I think this time very few student with hindi or any other regional medium have qualified this time.Seems many have failed in compulsory english language which if true is highly unfair. What u all think guys.Any idea
I think this time very few student with hindi or other regional language passed the mains exam.Seems many have failed in compulsory english language this time which if true is highly unfair in a nation with mother tongue as hindi language. What do u think guys.Do you have any idea

Hi guy anyone with commerce optional cleared mains exam?
Congratulations to all :)
Hi Sir,
I did not clear Mains 2013. But I am in a dilemma regarding my result.I used to live in Hyderabad when I gave my Mains paper, but in January 2014 I had to shift to Mumbai. I realised just a few days back (3 days prior to Mains results)that a post has arrived at my place in Hyderabad from UPSC stating that there were a few discrepancies in the certificates I sent with my application form, the last date for sending corrected certificates was 19th February, and there was a note stating that failing to send within the last date would result in my disqualification for mains. However I sent the corrected certificates just two days back(10th March), after contacting the UPSC.
I was shocked to see myself not getting qualified, whereas many of my peers who didn’t do as good as I did got through. This is my second attempt and I wrote every paper extraordinarily well, there was not even a speck of doubt whether I would pass mains.
Can you please help me suggesting regarding the following :
1)How can I assure that myself that I didn’t get through mains because of my MAY be poor performance in mains or was it due to the communication gap between me and the UPSC?
2) Should I wait for the declaration of Mains marks(which would be declared almost after a month from now), by that time interview phase would be completed.
Please suggest me what to do and how to approach the UPSC regarding this matter.
Yours is a tough situation. The fact is you cannot wait until marks are released if it is due to certificate issue.I have few suggestions which you can try ifit is worthy enough,
1. First, try to contact UPSC helpline and ask whether you are not qualified because of certificate issue? The outcome should be almost zero for this try, but it not bad to try first here.
2. File RTI inquiring whether your certificates are accepted or whether any discrepancies were there with your application. UPSC should reply as reply to this will not hurt the interest of UPSC in going further with the process. Make sure you frame the RTI questions in right way without going hypothetical.
3. There is no other option other than waiting for the marks to be released.
same thing happened wid me so i went to upsc to clear d issue personally but they told me that we dont disqualify coz of documents, anyone who is selected will appear in list , conditioned to further submisson of documents
thanks for clarification.
hi , chanda kanth i have similar problem.received letter on 3 march regarding discrepancies,i sent back on 6 march.also called upsc helpline on 12 march.no satisfactory reply.can we talk about this on phone 09983923814 or jyojeans@gmail.com.
Hi Chandrakanth,
See the result process and document verification process goes hand in hand. If for any reason a person who has cleared the mains exam and has not submitted the documents, UPSC gives ample time after the FINAL results also. This generally happens for caste certificates in UPSC format, etc etc.
So, be rest assured that your selection was in anyway affected due to this documents issue. Many of the candidates have received communication from UPSC about their certificates and many of them are selected also.
If in any case you are not satisfied with my comment then you can call Mr Farid Sir in UPSC at this number 011-23387410
Hope this helps.
Regards.
can i know method of downloading these pdfs

Upsc ha ruined hindi medium student I think
u knw ant1 who has cleared with hindi medium…does any such person exist?
we are searching
I also don’t know but this is grave injustice to poor pepoles
i dont think so…i know some friends who cleared mains …..ap log dusprachar mat failao …mehnat karo aur aage badho…apni kami ko dekho. faltu me samay barbad karne se koi fayda nhi hoga.
thanks yar….
hum dushprachar nahi kar rahe dost hum to chahte hai ki log samne akar kahe ki haan humne hindi medium se clear kiya hai
My number is not in list, is it due to the certificate was not submitted in time? please help me understand the same, refer the story line:
I received a letter from UPSC on 22nd Feb,2014 dated 18th Feb asking for ST caste certificate in new format which they provided, in which they also mentioned that on failing to do so my candidature will be cancelled.
They wanted me to submit the document within 10 days from the date of letter issued i.e. before 28th Feb.
But unfortunately I couldn’t manage to get certificate in the given time frame, I received the revised certificate on 3rd March which i mailed through speed post.
Generally this certificate issue goes hand in hand with the result process.
To get your query solved plz Call Mr Farid Sir in UPSC at this number 011-23387410
i want to prepare for IAS , please help me ,how to prepare for both pre and mains, which material should i use, and optional paper…
best of luck all sucess full candidate
Anyone with commerce as their optional who has got cleared
Congrats who are inside the circle. Heartfull sympathy who r out for this attempt (only one yr back and nothing more or u can say getting one more yr to get good rank in next attempt) I think they should sit with paper, pen and past and analyse the mistake whatever done to see this day and make concrete plan to have cheers with good rank in next attempt.
how far an optional can be blamed for failure?
is it candidate wasnt upto the mark in facing the optional question paper or the new GS mains question paper or upsc has turned down few optionals by adopting some correction patterns?
it is very imp for this year contenders, candidates might switch optionals because of negative publicity and might end up ruining their chances…
optional is not the sole thing in mains, did anyone retrospect about their performance in GS mains? did the new GS mains paper was not better handled by candidates?
i am not criticizing anyones efforts here but i believe one should think this way and plan next attempt if failed this time?
couldn’t clear mains (2nd attempt) with geography…sorting out my weaknesses…will fight back harder this year.
All d best to people appearing for interview…
@others who couldn’t clear…FRNDS,LETS MAKE IT THIS YEAR.
am out for the 2nd time. (2nd attempt). Feeling very tired at the moment.
Congrats to all those who got through, keep fighting the battle. Your win will be our inspiration ! ( Please mention your optional if you are posting a comment)
Also, after some self-analysis, (leaving aside my mistakes), I feel UPSC again screwed Pub-add students.
I don’t understand UPSC’s logic to systematically screw few optionals like geography, pub-add etc… (any thoughts ?)
(How can an aspirant prepare for the exam knowing that his best efforts will not be enough for the exam.)
i m also out (2nd attempt).
optional : geography
I am also out :-( (3rd Attempt), 2nd time I have been on the wrong side in Mains (in 2011 as well as 2013)
Optional: Pub Admn.
Trying my best to come out of the disappointment..Right now feeling exhausted and thoroughly frustated..Only reason I can see is 1. Pub Adm. as Optional, and 2. Lack of writing practice :-(
Please let me know, If anyone made it with Pub Admn?
Hi all .
Congratulations who all passed Mains 2013.
Please share ur comments about Geography optional .
Thanks
Selected for nxt stage :)
still way to go……
cleared!
cleared in my first attempt with geography. i felt the paper was good, neither very tough nor very easy.
i dont understand why is everyone making a fuss of geo paper. i felt anyone who was a conscious student of geo could decently attempt it n not those who were bred on coaching class. i personally hate geo coaching available in the slums of delhi. the same printed notes r in circulation for the last one decade.
for exception– i liked da human geography material of majid hussain.(plz dont think that am doing an advertisement of the same teacher here but just that i borrowed the same material from my friend and i found it to be different)!
all the best ahead..
anyone having doubts in geo can reach me

Hi Akanksha,
On the first place, congratulations and all the best for the next stage.
I am in the early stages of preparation and completely depends on web for strategies and materials. I have taken geography as an optional. I will be grateful if i can get a basic strategy and the books referred.I know it will be difficult for you to respond now but if possible after the interviews, please mail at ranjanavinash21@gmail.com whenever you are in leisure .
Thank you.
Kindly tell the stategy that u followed for geo.. and congrats for your success.
My email is sgk7862000@gmail.com
congrats for ur selection. Akanksha can u give details of ur strategy for GEo optional
Kindly send me some tips on
(1) how you organised the syllabus over the months,
(2) method of practising answers
(3) answer writing in mains(heading, diagrams etc)
also any other tips you advised other candidates, thanks.
mystic.rasputin@gmail.com
please give me some tips as iam going to give cse pre 2014. Ms. Akanksha.
I made the mistake of somewhat neglecting the Physical Geography(PAPER I) in my first attempt (2012). My total was 68 in Physical and 102 in Paper II. most people don’t pay much attention on physical part and try to cover the Indian Geo part simultaneously while preparing for the GS paper. When i started preparing for my second attempt I ensured that I would dedicate more time to Geo – PAPER I. The vast syllabus of the Physical Geo may scare the hell out of some people but I would suggest, reading the fundamental parts of land forms, oceanography, climatology from NCERT or Go Cheng Leong Then you can proceed with the bulky books by some eminent authors.
Plz share your strategy for geography. books list…my email id- rajeev_744@yahoo.in
hi akanksha!
congrats on ur success!
pls give details of ur strategy.n also send me the details of the books u read.it would be really helpful if u send the details.my mail id: binurocks07@yahoo.com
Ma’m please give the list of books and notes you followed for the preparation. Please be honest don’t add those books which u hv not read.
I’ll be truthful and frank here…
i had geography as a optional in my graduation so that was an added advantage…
thus even in the questions in which i stumbled, i could still muster the courage to gather my random knowledge of college years and wrote..
i focussed on the following points–
1. good handwriting
2.neat diagrams
3.short and crisp answer….no need to go about in paragraphs..
ad guys…relax!
this quesiton of “which book” is rubbish…i believe when u took up an optional..u ofcourse learnt about the book list too….
i too read simple, basic books like Majid hussian, savindra singh series n khullar n ncert etc etc in my college and prep years both…
i would advice u to re read the books again n not go for changing the books..
Thnx
Thanks Ma’m … Can u please tell me from which college u did ur graduation…I have observed that students of premier colleges are able to crack upsc without coaching…
There is a speculation that students studied in Delhi only have cleared. guys ( who cleared ) can you bust that myth by posting your place of residence and mode of study (with or without coaching). i am from Chennai and preparing for 2014 and eager to hear from you.
Thanks
Vinoth.
Hi vinoth…Im from hyd. I Dint study at delhi at any tym. Cleared mains on my own.
That is clearly a myth . Even if not nothing more than sheer co-incidence . I’d not waste a minute thinking in that direction .
ya,i completely agree with you, it is a speculation that coaching will increase your standard. They only give you mugging tips in spite of creating idea.
hi vinoth,
this is definitely a myth. i have done my entire prep sitting in varanasi, without any coaching classes and a study group.i think , all u need is the determination, hard work, right material, aptitude and god’s grace.
thanks all, that really helped. I am not usually bothered by these speculation, however many of my friends preparing were stating the same and few who cleared also were reiterated it, so got worried. Now i do feel better and all the best for you all. Both 2014 interview and 2014 prelims.
Thanks
Vinoth.
Hello Nidhi,
Congrats for your success in CSE-Mains. I am also from Varanasi and working person.Could you please give suggestion for preparation here in Varanasi. Thanks
me too…. at home .. from varanasi
I m also frm varanasi.i cleared 2011 but could nt get through in 2012 and 13 mains.according to me the paper i wrote was gud .pub ad optional.nidhi plz some insight
Hats Off to you guys! Prepration from Varanasi is really difficult. We don’t even get The Hindu regularly. My family recently shifted to Lucknow so i’m better off now. It was my first attempt, I couldn’t qualify Mains but now I feel i’ve learned from my mistakes and i’m ready for next year.
Nidhi did you complete your schooling from Sunbeam Lahurabeer?? I guess we were classmates.
congrats for the success miss. i am also from varanasi and have cleared mains.
wish to know if there are some aspirarants in varansai who can from a group for interview preparations; mock interviews among aspirants have been advised as best interview prparartion strategy on many forums.
thanks
Hey Vinoth,
Above 300 students cleared from Tamil Nadu. It is roughly 30% of the total candidates cleared from overall. Every year above 70 make it to the final list from Tamil Nadu. Above all, it is not the state which matters but the effort of individuals.
bull shit ..its a jst fake news…jo mehnat karega vo niklega…bas ,,,only hard works pays in upsc
Hyderabad.. Geography.. No Coaching
boss..how to crack with geography?i failed this time plzz guide.
