I wasn’t into a full time dedicated preparation and it was my debut match with UPSC.
One thing for sure the exam was far more suitable for first timers.

I am getting 110+145 from CL keys… cutoff myt be around 210 is wat i feel from my experience… this is my 3rd prelims with 2 mains n 1 interview in last 2yrs…

Yeah my gut feeling says cut off would come down for sure. See last year it was 241 for 400 marks. But this year it’s only for 380 marks (those eng questions removed which everyone scores). So this year 221 is equal to last year’s 241. So it must be less than 220 at least by 5-10 marks. Correct me if I went wrong.

any idea about forest services marks?
Well guys… Everybody who has put in lot of blood and sweat in our preparation. I am also fighting this battle since 4 years now. Just to analyze the papers and give my 2 cents in. Paper 1 will have 10-15 marks less as compared to last year. Paper 2 ..due to the removal of easy English and decision making questions. I am taking the reduction of 20 marks. So. A total of 30 -35 marks reduction is what I am guessing. Adding the aspect of more people taking exam this year. I think that won’t make much difference. So. 210 should be a good score. All the best guys.

some of the 2014 questions are from last year’s choices…and if got time u can check from 2011 and 2012….
current year’s question is IN previous year’s choices..(THIS IS BEST SUITED FOR ARTS AND CULTURE Qs)

hi all, well… it was as poor a show as it could have ever been.. fared pathetic… scoring 177 to 180… in ST category… is there any chance???
Paper 1 did had sitters but good to see upsc making paper for those who have genuin love for knowlege specially general knowlege…Quiz masters must b happy.Though not pretty good for xam specific learners.I guess cutoff would increase as has been the trend irrespctive of the difficulty…Rest god bettr knows. Next up is mauth ka mahina… no tym to look back nw…
First Timer’s experience.
Expectation: ~200 (obc)
May be close to cutoff.
Observations: 1. Dont rely on just Polity+Eco+History. Need to study all subjects. All are important.
2. Question are not for expert. Basic knowlege of all is key. ‘NCERTs’ are bible.
3. Was confused about joining/not joining coaching so far, as this time i am leaving my job for exclusive preparation. Now i m sure- no coaching.
4. Before prelims, one need to devote 2 months to NCERT and basic sources of all subjects.
5. Practice is the key in paper 2. Test Series in simulated environment is required.
6. One need to develop his own method to tackle paper 2. Managing Speed and accuracy need lot of homework.

what the **** ,no questions from ancient history or anc..culture except two (1).six system or schools of indian philosophy. (2) from which upanishad, reference of satymaev jayate is taken as national motto of india. in med..india designation of ‘Mahattara’ and ‘Pattakila’ were for??? if any body knows please reply…..

My paper 1 was not so good… paper 2 was decent… around 180 -200 with 4 months of intermittent preparation. And what I ever I score, much of the credit goes to you because of your guidance. without it, i doubt if I would have crossed 120-140.

Dear UPSC,
Pls change your Prelims Paper 1 syllabus. ” General issues on environment ecology, Bio diversity and climate change , that do not require subject specilazation ” .
Remove the last sentence and add “it requires degree level knowledge in environment”
Explicitly mention ” Indian Art and culture” as that of mains so that people won’t get shock after seeing question paper.
Those who got 220+ in prelims don’t ask anymore such stupid questions ” can I get through ?”…
If you guys itself in dilemma , it hurts the sentiment of others…
I agree with you karthik but we should see that they are screening candidates for IFoS also from the same test so tough questions on environment were bound to come.We can expect them next year too..But no question from indian national movement and too many questions from culture hurts coz culture is not explicitly mentioned in PT syllabus..afterall UPSC is famous for surprises..God knows what they plan for next year.
Although Art & Culture is not specially mentioned in syllabus. It is Integral of History. (Political, Social, Economic & Cultural History). Ancient India is rich in Cultural History.
But question paper is highly skewed towards art and culture instead of political and economic history.
If it’s the way in next year also, then we have to mug up tons of data into our mind which reduces the standard of upsc it gained over past 3 years.
hehe true…that line “do not require subject specialization” always mislead new comers, we actually need PhD in some of the topics.
& yeah Art & Culture is more suitable topic name.

UPSC kurbani mangti hai…… Aur na do to jaan lekar jaati hai. Waqar Younis ke yorker se bhi jyada unpredictable hai. Kitna bhi prepare kar lo, questions to reverse swing ki tarah hote hai. Jo bhi guess karoge opposite hoga…. Apni akal lagao trend pe mat jao. UPSC ka trend jab tak samajh me aayega aapka khel khatam ho chuka hota hai… Alwida doston , yahan to game over ho gaya. (195 + Gen).
