we all who scored low are thinking that cutoff wil be low ..but its not going to be low…i am doomed and i accepted….i have the habit of losing inspite of putting efforts..and nothing new this time…..now wil start preparing for losing in CSP 2015… \m/

it may be 150 to 160 for OBC…as per the pattern of Paper I and Paper II which are 100 % differ from all previous one ( 2011,2012,2013) and not expecting by any one of the civil services aspirant 2014…so lets see what happen in next month when UPSC declarer the result and cut off…

Regrading below question, i used below logic.
Photosynthesis process absorbs Co2 but food produced thereafter is consumed by plants themselves and releases Co2.
And almost 90% of food produced is consumed for the metabolic activity at this Trophic.
Taking this logic i marked all of the above.
I think i stretched the logic too much.

Mediterrean receives rainfall in winter as Sub tropical high moves over sea and wind flows from sea to land.
In summer reverse happens. For sure these is reversal of winds otherwise these is no rainfall in winters at Mediterrean.
Equatorial wind direction also changes as ITCZ moves from Northern hemisphere to Southern hemisphere.
Any one agree with this?
Equatorial climate always has low pressure conditions, that is why evergreen rain forest, ITCZ merges with equatorial low in winter and shifts towards cancer in summer.
Dear, question clearly asks PHOTOSYNTHESIS which ultimately releases o2, what happens during cellular oxidation was not asked.
Second one about seasonal change, I too marked all above.
Photosynthesis never adds Co2 in air. You have over stretched your logic. Thinks of Amazon forests and why they are called lungs of earth? Plants trees and phytoplankton always removes Co2 from air. So by elimination trick you can remove all options with photosynthesis as option. Next volcanic eruption is another source of carbon dioxide addition and with respiration it gives the choice as volcanic eruption, respiration and decay of organic matter( as it adds carbon dioxide to air). Also there was a question how photosynthesis works. In that a free electron is released by action of sunlight which is involved in free energy production and thereafter after some biochemical reactions carbon dioxide is stored as polysachhrides.
and Monsoons is only characterized with seasonal reversal of winds as SW and NE monsoon. The main and even primarily cause of rainfall through western disturbance or mediterranean is Jet streams which pulls it here on India.

And friends After scrutinizing many solutions, discussion with subject experts and internet searching finally I have come to conclusion that solution of paper1 and paper 2 given by Gaurav Agarwal are most authenticated. Even test funda is worse in terms of paper 1. They have marked many answers incorrect and CL too has few errors. SO please if you want to finally check your score either go for Gaurav Agarwal and all his links which he has given to support his choices. And please don’t think of Testfunda or CL.

Expected cut off around 240+…both papers well easy…those hoping fr miracle at 210 or 220, it isnt advisable to study fr mains..cut off surely would be around 240..

No one is taking into account that 1.27 lakhs more candidates appeared this year, as compared to last year, lot of senior players are back and most of the candidates have given attempt this year as now even a general tegory candidate has 6 attempts, therefore cut off will not be less than 215 -220 for general

WHT SHOULD I DO NOW?
I attempted 74 in paper 1 and 66 in paper 2 .Answer keys of some toppers are putting me around 90 in paper1 (52c 22 wrong) and around 150 in paper 2. I think cutoff would be somewhere around 215-220. I think UPSC should be more transparent. I am not happy the way DOPT notified not to attempt 22.5 marks and then UPSC, with all lofty ideas and recalcitrance, gave only 2 such passages. I was confused in hall for some minutes to figure out where that third passage gone and then no decision making questions. They should have notified these before. I lost some 5-10 min. during all this struggle and was unable to attempt some 7-8 questions and all those were cake-walk. Regarding GS paper i don’t know what they want from aspirants. There must be a fair distribution of marks to every section – even CBSE class X paper is way better made than this one made by our UPSC. Even lucent book could solve these factual questions — specially polity, modern history, environmental legislation and IR then what use of reading things in depth — learn some facts, join SSC classes but keep aiming for IAS and you have fair chance of clearing. I could have got the same marks had i prepared for 3-4 months before exam -where is back breaking mood?? what things they wanna judge is beyond my imagination – craps from culture, tribes- who is doing what lolz
UPSC should know that some good people are kept aside in its cat and mice race — one of my friend,who gave interview last year is in doubt this time and now he is focusing on SPSCs. They made this exam simply – IAS BY CHANCE.
Bro, i completely agree wid u…….wen i saw upsc papers 2011-13 prelims papers it looked dat upsc is more focussed on understanding of concepts in GS and not on g.k. facts………but this year it looked less like a UPSC paper and more like SSCCGL paper……why upsc decieded to move away from understanding based questions to rattafication questions suddenly…??? I think it is equal to bringing down the respect which it earned in last 3 years GS paper…..dissapointed by this years paper setter…..
My analysis of why some questions could have been asked in this year exam. This post has answers to the static questions too which we are calling it as pre-2011 era question. I believe UPSC doesn’t ask anything without a reason.

I think one should complete ARC/economy/ethics and prepare it nicely to avoid last minute haste if cutoff dips down. Moreover God forbids if it doesn’t than it will surely help next year. We shouldn’t think much now about cutoff ranges. I am very sure UPSC will surprise there too like last year.

Go Rishi, That’s respectable estimate..It happened in year 2012, post exam coaching classes declared high cutoff but when actual result came it was way way below. this has been acknowledged by many toppers of that year. ..so stop worrying and fuel up..

i think mediterranean climate is not due to seasonal reversal of winds, rather it is due to shift in the itcz belt……in summers due to itcz shifting upwards in n.hemi , the region doesnt fall in the zone of westerlies ( note that mediterranean regions exist bw 30 to 45N and though itcz shift is 10-20 degrees but effects are most visible in mid latitude regions)

it was asking about reversal of winds, though, there is a shift in wind position in med type but it is reversal in monsoon type…reversal ,meaning that earlier main landmass was occupied by sw winds and now by ne winds….
so either it should be monsoon type or none of the above

For the question on soil erosion(which of the options are related), it seems like both terrace farming & deforestation both are related. As one is the way to prevent and other is the cause as per NCERT books. Anyone has got the same answer. Please Reply!

Earthquake on upsc part(scale 5) and silly mistakes from my side(scale 4)= Disaster(scale 9) +Expecting Tsunami on result day. Big waves will take away coastal ones(i think i am standing here) . getting around 190-200(obc).
