No yar aisa kuch nhi hai….anything around 200+-10,has a chance…
Reason: last year there were 8 questions of english+ 8 questions of decision making…this time no such edge….so it ultimately decrease cut by 40 marks….also the paper2 though not tough but not on expected lines…even the brightest students could attempt around 65+- questions only….but they dont form majority….so cut can be around 190-210.prepare for mains…..

i think most of students were not able to solve paper 2 completely,that might bring cutoffs near to 210-220
GS paper was total GK . previous trend was totally broken .NCERT -of little significance now.CSAT paper ENG . COMP excluded (knew already) decision making exclusion was just like an atom bomb.ENG. COMP. very big, drastic inc.in maths & NON VERB. res.It can be said it was designed to favour ………….SOME people .MBA should be made eligibility for such an exam,OTHER WISE IT IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR ALL NON ENGG& NON Math background. We should keep in mind that the Total Score is 385 only and 15 marks ( Khairat Wale bhi nahi mil rahe hain) so cut off score bhi thoda kam hi rahega. But on the other hand we cant be so sure , lets not waste time and jump into Maut ka Mahina after Katl ki Subah . Nahi bhi hoga pre me to bhi , it is not going to harm us.

this time papers seems like that upsc dont want candidates to go above 50 -55%…eliminated decision making ,,,,,,,,,,,,,increased the lenght of passage ……and reasoning were a bit typical and gk toh gk hi tha bhai ………………

This year cut off for general category will be about 180-190, obc 165-175, sc 150-155, st 140 – 145.
Considering three factor 1. total marks is 385 in place of 400, 2. decision making question is absent and 3. difficulty level of question is as difficult as 2011. In 2011 cut off was 198 for general, 175 for OBC, 165 for SC and 161 for ST. so this year cut off may be 190 for general, 170 for OBC, 160 for SC and 155 for ST. All the best start preparation for mains
Below 200, frustration is on high level, left my job before one year for this bloody gk type paper. Ye DP jaate jaate bhi jhatka de gaya, bhagwan iski aatma ko kabhi shanti na mile.

Totally agree . It was not a test of your intellect but a test of rot learning. The previous 2 years trend was more around conceptual questions and to our surprise this yr it was only gk. Lost my faith in UPSC’s way of extracting cream from India.

Mr chintan your manthan is absolutely right…for forcing banks to have sufficient cash there is cash reserve ratio
Reserve requirements are one of the tool for controlling money supply or you can say credit creation,, however while safeguarding depositors interest central banks works as ‘lender of last resort’. So the option a’ will be the answer.. if you don’t believe than see what central banks of few countries like Australia , new Zealand and Sweden are doing. There is no Reserve requirements.

How are you people calculating negative marking? I mean some of you are taking it 1/3 multiplied by total number of wrong questions. I think we have to take 1/3*2 for every wrong answer. This is because on notification they are saying negative marking is “1/3 of the total marks allotted to the question”. Is it wrong if I am taking it as 1/3 multiplied by the total marks (2 or 2.5 as the case may be) which comes out to be 2/3 or 2.5/3 ?
Please correct me if I am wrong. I have calculated mine in this way only.
thats correct. for first paper 2/3 .. second paper 2.5/3 or 5/6.

This was my first attempt, Paper 1 was really unexpected, but as i can see in comments that a lot of people were comfortable with it, so that means, i have to prepare more.Paper-2 was pretty easy (not an engineer), English level was really basic, passages were not huge to read through, Maths was easy too, but speed was the key here.I used M.Tyra (have been using it for all the exams, for quite sometime, works for me for shortcuts and speed).Did fairly well in Paper-2 but not i Paper-1, so next year it is then.

Keys provided by CL have errors, many errors. So, the beast thing would be to wait for ups key.
Abhay, you are calculating it right, i calculated in the same way and believe it to be right, if anyone thinks otherwise please help us to understand.
In my opinion, 1/3 * no.of questions will happen if every question was for one mark which is not the case here.

Getting around 226 this time acc. to CL answer keys. but confused abt no confidence motion , neem tree and the paper 2 comprehensions as i am getting few right acc. to Jagranjosh.com answer keys.
