Background
After the change of civil service (Mains) exam syllabus in 2013, UPSC aspirants had been demanding additional age/attempt limit. Large scale protests organized during December session of parliament..
So far, UPSC and Personnel ministry had shown an indifference to these demands (as per the Minister’s reply in Rajya Sabha and RTIs to UPSC and Personnel Ministry.)
But now, Personnel Ministry’s official site has uploaded a new PDF notification:

It reads:
Subject: Civil Service Examination- Relaxation of number of attempts
The Central Government has approved “two additional attempts to all categories of candidates w.e.f. Civil Services Examination 2014, with consequential age relaxation of maximum age for all categories of candidates, if required.”

Then upper age limit turns out to be General = 32, OBC = 35, SC/ST=37.

As always Mrunal Sir’s prediction was correct.
It is quite possible that if the central govt changes, the new changes so made can be reversed. The notification is yet to come on may 17th. Till then you never know.

it is not confirmed by upsc & for your kind information when it is not confirmed by upsc notification it is not clear that general candidates have some relaxation on the matter of age or attempts…
i am not sure whether the bjp at the centre would reverse the decision taken by the previous govt.Although,this normally does not happen but we wil have to wait.Fingers crossed!!!!!!!!
anoop shukla, if upsc reverse the noticification , we should protest against it and complain to bjp govt as we did to rahul gandhi who increase the age limit.
why notification of civil service is late in this week
Generally a new govt. does not reverse a populist measure enacted by d previous one if there is no financial burden.So,little chances for revoking d decision

My DOB is in Nov 1982 , I had given 1 attempt (prelims ) in 2003 , then had to continue for PG stduies of MCA . I also filled a form in 2004 and 2008,2009 , but was not able to attempt as lack of preparation being at private sector job in IT.
Now am I eligible for which exams?
What will be biggest challenge for me?

Sir, i am an ex-Serviceman and my DOB is 13.07.1980. According to policy of UPSC regarding upper age limit for Ex-Serviceman, it is “Upper age limit for a particular Community plus 5 years of age relaxation”. In my case, i can appear in Civils exams upto the age of 38 years(I am an OBC Candidate: 33+05=38). Now, my question is, whether, i do have an extension of 2 years of age relaxation as per the new policy?. kindly, clarify.
