Background
After the change of civil service (Mains) exam syllabus in 2013, UPSC aspirants had been demanding additional age/attempt limit. Large scale protests organized during December session of parliament..
So far, UPSC and Personnel ministry had shown an indifference to these demands (as per the Minister’s reply in Rajya Sabha and RTIs to UPSC and Personnel Ministry.)
But now, Personnel Ministry’s official site has uploaded a new PDF notification:

It reads:
Subject: Civil Service Examination- Relaxation of number of attempts
The Central Government has approved “two additional attempts to all categories of candidates w.e.f. Civil Services Examination 2014, with consequential age relaxation of maximum age for all categories of candidates, if required.”

Then upper age limit turns out to be General = 32, OBC = 35, SC/ST=37.

Mr Sarath, May be you are not worried but that doesn’t mean that others too are not worried. It’s matter of time which is very precious… The notification will release in May and then there will be only 3 months time where as if the issue gets solved now aspirants will have 6 months time for prelims. Time is very valuable understand that…

Its politics which is making us Fool …..increasing attempts must be done only for General candidates
…..If reservation is there why other category candidates have extra chances…Chances must be equal for all….and age must be fixed at least at 30 or 33 for all….5 chances are very much for any one as it will include time span of at least 5 to 6 years …its a large time span in any ones life….Merit must be safeguarded at a few standard…please protest together for equal attempts so that people must not waste their life for just this exam..
Still defined here in India from the aspect of category…should be equal for all & there should be no category, only needy people are eligible and only for economical help… why age relaxation.
sir,,,, i completed my graduation by taking one more year extra than the normal graduation of four years ,,,,mean i completed my graduation for five years….due to some ill health but atlast i totaly completed my graduation with 55 percentage…..is im elgible for this prestigious exam………

I am planning to give my first attempt in 2015, I was born in April, 1984. Also, I belong to the General Category
Under these new rules of age relaxation, will I be able to appear in 2015? or this new rule applies only to people who have given previous attempts?
