Background
After the change of civil service (Mains) exam syllabus in 2013, UPSC aspirants had been demanding additional age/attempt limit. Large scale protests organized during December session of parliament..
So far, UPSC and Personnel ministry had shown an indifference to these demands (as per the Minister’s reply in Rajya Sabha and RTIs to UPSC and Personnel Ministry.)
But now, Personnel Ministry’s official site has uploaded a new PDF notification:
Link: http://persmin.gov.in/AIS1/Docs/MoreAttempts.pdf
It reads:
Subject: Civil Service Examination- Relaxation of number of attempts
The Central Government has approved “two additional attempts to all categories of candidates w.e.f. Civil Services Examination 2014, with consequential age relaxation of maximum age for all categories of candidates, if required.”
—end of copy paste—
Then upper age limit turns out to be General = 32, OBC = 35, SC/ST=37.
For more elaboration, wait for some update/press release to come on upsc.gov.in/.
Update
Those who believe its a fake rumor, see the news has also appeared in:

Thank You Rahul Gandhi! You heard us when nobody cared…..
Sir, it was neither officially confirmed by UPSC nor published in the Gazette of India….!!
Yes,
The way it has been written doesn’t seem official, it might be a malicious attempt by someone. Its authenticity will only be confirmed after its publication by PIB and subsequent notification by UPSC. Till then do not believe this.
In broader scheme of things, not a good news!! anyways people will celebrate tonight only to realize in hangover state that if it has to happen, its now or never.
sir, its a sincere request and will be kind of you, if you continue with your mains analysis, no doubt your article are awesome and very useful, but it will be of great help if you complete the analysis of mains 2013, and then move ahead with your mind blowing articles
Hi Mrunal Bhai,
Two Questions for you…..
Do you think competition is going to increase tremendously for General Category Students as this is beneficial for them. People from OBC/SC/ST are not going to get benefitted as they have 35 yrs of age limit. More ppl from General will write this exam for 50% vacancies and ppl from reserved categories doesnt see much increase in aspirants.
Also, I am not sure if I can ask you this question.
Are you too planning to give another shot????? I am asking just out of curiosity….
Anyone writing HPAS mains from Delhi..??
can i get the official website link of the news please?
Hmm.. Good news or bad news.
Doesn’t concern me. I’m sure that I’m going to get top rank this year, in my first attempt.Your competition is always with yourself, and not others. So, why bother about others, when you can’t stop others from reading. Better, read and improve your knowledge.
Also,I think that, I’ve no threat with those people, who were not able to clear even after 4 attempts. 2 more attempts wouldn’t make any difference to them. Maximum 20-30 people will be serious enough to get benefit from this rule. Maybe I’m wrong, but the thing is that who cares :P
Attitude huh!!!
Positive one..
u r a haughty assole…u wont get anything
Hey! Its good to be confident but overconfidence is disastrous..As per the Yerks-Dodson Law of psychology, one should always behave in moderation, extreme is always bad.. (take it in a good spirit)
Good one…..
With this kind of attitude it is going to be very difficult for you to crack the interview. You see, UPSC is not just a knowledge testing exam. UPSC tests you as a person and if you have this kind of attitude i am not very hopeful of you cracking the interview.
Back again…. Gave 2 attempts… Reached 30….
Reminds me of famous line from the book “The Alchemist”………..
“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
― Paulo Coelho,
Win or loose don’t know…. But for its a blessing….
Perfectly TRUE,
I also think that this is a miracle made by nature.
“Miracles do happen”- A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Spark
Its a really a Great step by UPSC, please take benefit of this….
if implemented ..will gt back in to te game… feeling happy :-)
It sucks :-( ….
After 2 years ll the notifications ll be out for us also :'(
RAHUL GANDHI
i think its bug or website hack on which pdf uploded… see pdf n fonts… upsc never uploded like this… red colour etc…
those concerned about the authenticity of the news regarding the attempts go to the all India radio news site (newsonair.com) and look. it’s government news agency and they won’t blare out something without checking the truth from the concerned authorities……
so relax!!! it’s all official
@Good!!! It seems that you read lots of books.. Brother but it shouldn’t be win or LOOSE.. #justforfun
Nope… i am not from one of those who has read lot of books… my counts ends on finger count itself…
yeah… i know its #just4fun… but the fun can happen only when there is opportunity…which can be converted…
Working professional… prep for UPSC is luxury for me… satire indeed…
“prep for UPSC is luxury!!!??? seriously dude…? i mean UPSC prep could be easy or hard or #just4fun or bothersome but LUXURY? how could it be luxury?
sir,
The move is great but if the central government changes and D P agarwal brings pressure on new govt to bring back the rules to pavilion, then what’s the fate?everyone know that UPSC won’t compromise on anything.with this move i am planning to do PG for two years.
mrunal sir please clarify weather i do PG or continue preparation???
sir i am 35 yrs ex serviceman am i eligible now for two attempts

It doesn’t prove its authenticity sir, they have just copy pasted the notification. The way it has been written doesn’t seem official, it might be a malicious attempt by someone. What about those who had their last attempt (Agewise) in 2011 & could not get through because of the introduction of CSAT!!!!! Shouldn’t they be given at least one chance :(

musoorie calling ….kadam badhane ki bas der hai.. ..
Hi Mrunal,
What is the chance of giving the relaxation in UPPER AGE LIMIT….. Still they are diplomatic about the UPPER AGE LIMIT – said may relax IF REQUIRED…….
So a prudent analysis from Mrunal will be highly apprecited……..
Thanks
Banerjee
that pdf looks so fake…but the news has spread everywhere…in all newspapers!!!
cosequential age relaxation means 32 years for general,37 years for obc 32+3+2,and 39 years for sc/st 32+5+2,what yours take guys,go for rti to dopt if need be.
The notification does not look “official” at all.No date, signing authority, letterhead.
I would be a beneficiary of the increased attempt as well, but it seems we need to wait for some more time for clarity on it.
Till then fingers crossed…………..
Its Not fake ,Yesterday I heard AIR FM and they also told about the same.
Just 5 days back I celebrated my 32nd birthday. Am I also eligible for these 2 extra attempts???????????
I have never appeared for this exam earlier.
