UPSC has uploaded DAF (Detailed application form) for the Civil service Mains-2014.
http://upscdaf.nic.in/DAF/daf_csm_2014/
New development: You can’t change Optional-Subject, exam-Centre,, Indian Language paper (Paper-A) and Answer Medium. You’ll have to stick to whatever you choices made in the prelims application form. (Ref: Instruction PDF file, page no. 3.)
- Last date is 11th November. MAKE NO HASTE in filling this form. Thoroughly read the PDF files uploaded on that page.
- Questions-queries post in comments. I request senior players to help others filling up the DAF-form.
- PS: You can read medical standards in the Gazette PDF file, page no. 213 Appendix III.

Guys any idea about
No new recruitment policy by Modi Govt….
Yaani ab ki baar fir BEROZGAAR……..
If you don’t have an idea about it, should you really add your ‘Yaani ab ki baar fir BEROZGAAR……..’?
Im a dual degree(BTECH+MTECH) graduate, In education column, should I write PG qualification separately or choose in graduation itself the MTech option?
I was working on a technical project and soon DS&T of Govt of India might accept my proposal and allot fund for my project. It’s a not-for-profit project and kind of similar to what aadhar scheme is. It’s a project, if successful, would be of high benefit for common citizens of India.
Do you think, i should mention this in my DAF? Will it have +ve or -ve impact? Can Interview board notice the fact that i might already be working with DS&T department?
Is showing your high technical competence and track record has +ve or -ve impact during your interview?
Senior (experienced) players please advice.
Hi Ppl…
i’ve no specific hobby…am worried how to move forward with willing DAF….can i mention “No Specific Hobby” or mention something or the other and work it out before interview……
Plz help me….. in a state of dilemma…
Immanuel Kant, Thomas Edison and Mao Zedong also had no specific hobbies
nice
they never had to fill DAF i suppose ;) :D
^ Spot on :D
Are you a scholar researching on these famous guys personal lives and interests?
if i am indeed it is my business, do you have a problem my friend
Read again ; it is Other extra curricular activities and interests ,such as hobbies etc . Simply ask yourself ‘what do you do ? when u r in tension or in similar condition to feel calm/relax ; your answer is nearer to your hobby/interest area .
you may write ‘no hobbies’ ; but I think it will be fetal mistake for interview ; you will have to defend yourself before interviewers .
thx Amit
will work it out :) :)
Dear Amit ,
Thanks a lot. It really worked…
Hi Amith,
i have compiled an article about how to mention the hobbies , and what are the most common hobbies which can be safely mentioned… all those who need can read it through my blog! … inputs are welcome… http://csataspirant.wordpress.com/2014/11/01/how-to-manage-the-hobbies-section-of-ias-mains-daf/
What is rule 7 Frds kindly brief and dad print should be on both side of the pages or single side
I have the same query regarding Rule 7. What is Rule 7? I can’t find it anywhere. Please help at the earliest Mrunal Sir, friends.
I was born in Gurgaon,Haryana but I have stayed in Ahmedabad from last 12 years and there lies my confusion. I want to Indicate UP as my first preference (they make them DM/SP in 2-3 years there) but I have been told by many that it will look dishonest on my part to not mention either Haryana or Gujarat as my first preference.
In fact after what happened to IPS officers in Gujarat under last regime, few would want to fill it as first preference, Haryana is a small state, It takes quiet a time to get promote there.
My preferences so far are- UP,Raj,MP,Guj,Har,Pun,AGMUT
Any suggestions?
Fill your choices in order of your preference.
It’s just that as per present procedure of allocating cadres, it is unlikely to get home cadre if you fill it anywhere other than first preference.
If you fill UP first then at the most you may be asked in interview stage as to why so. Usually they don’t.
Can one opt for a service with lower preference after the selection ,at the time of service allocation ….For example, if I get rank good enough for IPS/IFS, will I be able to opt for my lower preference IRS?
Hi , aspirant may find this blog to be useful for practicing the Mains type questions. Regards

by wen do u guys think we shud post the completd form so as to reach in time. I am in delhi…
I am worried becoz i have not started wid it…as my parents stay away..and communication with diff set of ppl is consuming time…
hey dont worry first fill it very carefully make no haste…what kind of questions u will face in interview a lot depends on how u fill daf…plus u live in delhi so can submit it personally as well no need to depend on postal service…
Someone please cllarify.Have they relaxed eyesight vision for technical services including IPS because earlier the limit was +4 and -4 .Now itz written upto -6.00 error is allowed.????????????
they have removed even -6 limit… it is written that those who are using power -6 and above ave to undergo examination by special opthalmic board… even i m looking for clarity on this thing….
and what if some one is rejected in medical?? will he get non technical service or he is disqualified from the exam altogether?
If your eyesight is very poor (worse than -6) then you may like to keep ips and railways traffic services lower in your preferences. Otherwise fill the choices as you want to.
Don’t bother too much about medical. The probability of being rejected in mains is higher than the probability of being rejected in medical!
So stop worrying about medicals and start worrying about mains.
Good luck.
Bro ,source????
check the new gazette.. and correct me if i am wrong
Yipee..now i am eligible for IPS
Can anyone plz tell whether in the job profile part its the last drwan salary or the different designations u hv held have to b mentioned.. Thnxxx
Guys, Any idea how many photos we had to paste after the generation of DAF???

are you sure. Where is it mentioned??…. i m facing the same problem.
Hey… For edu qualification certificates, is it copy of marksheets or passing certificates? Please confirm.
Just correct my enclosure list: 10th Class, 12th class, and graduation degree .. Anything else ?? I am general category. Being female And I don’t have to paste the stamp right? I m in Delhi, how shall I courier my form to upsc? Speed post or registry? Signature in blue pen or black pen? Black& white printout of form will be fine?
Answers to your questions:
1. Passing certificates is fine.
2. 10th and graduation is enough. No need of 12th if DOB is there in 10th class certificate.
3. No stamp for female.
4. Speed post is fine.
5. Both black/blue pen will suffice.
6. Black and white printout will do.
Now its almost like answering a 10 marker :)
All the best.
Thanks
Dear Sandeep
Thanks a lot
You may courier it or send it via speed post or registered post. Since you are in Delhi, it would be more appropriate to hand it over personally at UPSC and get a receipt.
hello sir,
i have presented a paper in international conference in BHU during my pg(MD). can i mention this in daf in achievement column.
for obc candidate:if smbdy was earlier in non creamy layer n nw comes in creamy layer…he has filled the form wid his old obc certificate n cleared d prelims…bt nw he has to submit 3 yrs it returns…wht wud u suggest shud he gve mains by attaching the old certificate…or leave the mains examination..plz gve advice..
I don’t know the solution, but will definitely tell you not to leave exam. It’s a chance dude. But do call UPSC and ask them what to do. They will help in fixing the problem :)
Are you sure that you are now in non-creamy layer? What makes you think so? Because annual income is not the sole criteria to judge that.
beg your pardon – creamy layer
As far as I know, the income criteria takes into account the income for the last three consecutive years. The income should be more than the prescribed limit for the last three consecutive years to exclude you from the benefits of reservation. So please reverify your eligibility.
give the exam dude…and submit what ever relevant certificates u have…and tell some one to get other certificates up to date as soon as possible…even after mains upsc sends u letter asking for certificates if some are missing/not relevant u can submit it then.
Do we need to produce experience certificate at the time of interview?
At the time of interview, Will we require to produce job experience certificates/proof?
if yes, what documents can be used to show job eexperience??
yes i showed joining and releving letter + also keep salary certificate
incase i had a service agreement of 3 years in my company and i left the job in 1.5 years without taking the experiece letter what should i need to produce in that case…please clarify
My father name in 10th certificate is md Eqbal hussain
but
in graduate degree eqbal hussain what to write 10th wala or graduate wala
plz rply….
10th waala will be safer, as 10th certificate acts as our DoB proof, name proof etc.
Even I had a similar problem, with my father’s surname spelling.
Nobody is going to care about a minute detail. Take it easy.
10th wala
bhai log…employment details mein …agar abhi tak naukari kar raha hun..toh end date kya bharun…thanks in advance
I m also awaiting clarification on this point:). And any have format for undertaking need to be submitted by Govt Employee?????
Some PSUs like BHEL have format.
If your govt. org doesn’t have format , then just submit in plain paper.
someone please reply to this question..should we write PRESENT/ TILL DATE / anything else?
Also, how should we write in edu column if we have done dual degree(btech+mtech) course??
Please reply.
I also asked this doubt to UPSC. They replied that in the “End Date” , mention the date of submission of DAF. I did the same last time.
…could you please tell in how many days UPSC responded for your query? i am also waiting for a reply from UPSC…..
Where is tHE PHOTO in our DAF??
Where is photo in our DAF
It will be there when you take out the print of finally submitted DAF, you can also find it in preview.
Hi Mrunal sir..! i didn’t qualified for mains.. i wanna see the mains daf.. screen shots. can u upload it.. thank u sir.
Someone help me please, my name as appearing in all my certificates right from birth to college degree certificate is
“KAMATCHI @ ANAND K” but after my graduation I changed my name as “KAMATCHI ANAND K” in the Tamilnadu government gazette owing to the fact that a proper name should comprise only of alphabets and no symbols since then I have been using my changed name for all purposes and I had got a PAN card with the changed name so what must I do to ensure that UPSC won’t reject my DAF form. I had sent a query about this name issue to web-upsc@nic.in 3 days ago and got no reply yet……..
Fill your name as Kamatchi Anand K.
Along with your form send a copy of the affidavit wherein you rectified the error in the name.
Since nobody’s name contains special characters therefore you can always say that it was a typological error which got propagated at every stage ie birth certificate, tenth certificate, etcetera.
UPSC people are considerate in matters which are genuine, and yours is a simple case of removal of a non alphabet character from the name.
Lose sleep only over your studies nothing else.
Regards and good luck
Thank u very much….
if we already have the obc certificate with all the relevant clauses mentioned…..Do OBC candidates have to get the obc certificate signed again by the Tehsildar etc. in the format given by the upsc.???
PLZZZZ helppp!!!
UPSC will accept the OBC certificate only in the format which it gives.
However since you say that your certificate mentions all the relevant clauses and also since there is no time to get a new certificate, what you can do is send them a copy of what you have and then after mains get a new certificate in the prescribed format from your hometown/village.
If UPSC sends a letter asking for a certificate in prescribed format then you will be ready with one.
And don’t bother about it as UPSC will not stop you from appearing in the mains. So don’t stop studying!
I did my post grad from iit bombay. Iit bombay doesn’t allow conversion of CPI into percentage. In post graduation section both Cgpa and percentage are required to be filled in daf. What should I do?
You need to mention either of these. But not both
I did my post grad from iit bombay. Iit bombay doesn’t allow conversion of CPI into percentage. In post graduation section both Cgpa and percentage are required to be filled in daf. What should I do? No body is answering the call on the helpline no o upsc.
Either CPI/CGPA or percentage needs to be filled, not both Mr. IITian
@lord dufferin:hm..i thnk i need to beg pardon..:p… I got to knw tht, if i submit my daf wid the old certificate, they ll allow me to sit n ll ask to furnish new one later on..just tell me if they gonna disqualify me frm future attempts as a general candidate,if ll nt submit the new one dis tme.
For school and graduation either cgpa or percentage is required ( no red asterisk sign). However for post graduation there is red asterisk sign in both the columns i.e. cgpa and percentage.
can anyone tell me if UPSC checks the previous attempt application to confirm the details in the present DAF? (in interview as well)
@Mrunal Sir : I am working in Central Govt. Gr. A service (DAE) with 15600+5400 at present in Hyderabad. I want to ask whether it is necessary to fill all the services/states(like Tripura/Meghalaya) in DAF or we can leave some Group B servies like like AFHQ/DANICS/DANIPS/PONDICS
One can skip d services while filling d DAF.
